Anyone having a family/kid-friendly wedding?

Michelle, on March 14, 2021 at 9:06 PM Posted in Planning 1 11

Since there are so many who see weddings as family events. Are you doing anything special for the kids? Their own dinner options? Dancing along to the dj? Activity packets to occupy them? Something else entirely?

I’m hoping to not have any children present, besides my FH’s nephew and 3 nieces. If I have to have kids I will put together maybe coloring pages or something, there will be lawn games they can play. There will be kid friendly dinner options.

Our kids are older & out of the house. My daughter is one of my bridesmaids & his son is one of the groomsmen.

The kids at our wedding, including our own kids (10, 13 & 13) will have their own tables. There will probably be about 10 in all. They will have their own kids cups and some coloring books and of course phones for the gamers.

We had a kid friendly wedding. However, everyone decided to the leave the kids at home, so the only kids were my 2 flowers girls and 1 ring bearer. They were young (2, 3, and 7), so they sat with their parents and had a blast dancing. We had a separate kid's meal for the kids.

There will probably be a lot at hours. I sure hope they dance! We’ll have some activities - lego for sure. Whatever else I can think of that won’t be a recipe for disaster.
I totally get why people want kid free weddings, we just want kids there too.

    Dear Michelle,

I guess we’re still pretty young, I’ll be 24 (the age my mother had me), turning 25 and my FH will be 28, turning 29 in 2022 (getting married in Jan). So, we’ll be having “games” and things for the adults. We’re not really having children from about 2-15 there(I think one will be 8), just because none of our guests have kids in that range, but I’m sure they would enjoy it, too!
We had a custom Cornhole Set made, will have a disk golf basket and custom frisbees for people to play with and take home (we’re kind of reaching for straws as far as goodie bags go, haha, we’re also giving out magnets with the wedding info and one of our engagement pictures and “let your love grow” bags from Etsy with herb garden seeds in them). We also put together, essentially a 6 hour music video, with all of our ceremony reception music accompanied by live performances of songs we love or their music videos. Some didn’t have any kind of media so we just added pictures and videos of ourselves over the past 6 years. That will be projected so that’s it’s visible throughout the evening, and I think will entertain a lot of people. Our “traditions” aren’t as “family friendly,” if the family members aren’t also adults. We make an offering to Buddha, “Burry the Bourbon,” or dig it up I guess, and the traditional cake cutting and champagne toasts with a bouquet toss at the end. Then, for the send-away I found a great place that sells extended release sparklers.Maybe it would be a good idea to light and hand out sparklers to the kids to play with after sunset, since they’ll be old enough!Anyways, thank you for your post! It gave me a great idea that will give me a chance to thank the younger crowd for coming and have them to branch out and meet each other rather than just sit idly by their parents all night! My photographer would probably love it, too! 🥰

I will have kids at my wedding. I have like 6 in the wedding and guests kids. I'll have a kids table set up with some activities for them at it. Nothing else really. But I'll have someone designated to keep an eye on them (just in case the parents aren't doing so) since the wedding is by a river. (It's super difficult to get to but kids can be sneaky)

We had a kid friendly wedding, which, in practice, meant 2 10 month olds, and 3 3 1/2 year olds.

We hired the nanny of 2 of the toddlers to help the parents feel like there was support, our buffet had kid friendly choices, and I also bought little toys for them (...I'm not sure they were used, the kids had their own, and enjoyed the party).

The toddlers bonded, and also got to dance/play with their parents and their "aunties/uncles" (we have some great pics of that), and the babies were mostly passed around and cuddled.

Actually, one of the BEST moments in our wedding happened because of the babies: Our "aisle" had a corner, into the seating area, and as my dad and I turned it, one of our niblings let out the sweetest, happiest, little baby CROW of delight.

    It felt like a blessing.

While the families mostly went home a little earlier, I'm still very glad we included them.

We had lots of kiddos at our wedding from H's family. My MIL bought glow sticks that they loved, other than that they just danced a lot!

We’re having kids at our wedding! Everyone tells us we’re crazy for doing so, but we couldn’t imagine our big day without them there. We’re only anticipating about 5-8 or so kids, so it won’t be anything crazy, and none will be toddlers which definitely helps. We’re going to leave a wedding themed activity box at the table for them! Etsy has some really cute boxes of all little activities that they can do, and it’s all related to the wedding so we thought that would be a fun idea!

Our own kids will be there as well as close family and friends that will be traveling in from out of town. Total of 15. Our caterer offers a kid's buffet for an additional cost, but based on ages and numbers we're not going to do it. The caterer does offer discounted plates for children, but it's the same food adults are getting. We're also doing grab bags for the kids to help keep them occupied, coloring books, crayons etc. We're just going to go ham at the dollar store to fill them up.
