Anyone having to postpone their engagement?

Lindsay, on April 17, 2020 at 4:00 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 18
Not a typical situation on these boards I'm sure but my boyfriend and I have already chosen a date (Oct 30 of next year) and are starting to plan our wedding without being officially engaged. There's no secrets between us when it comes to this so I knew he was planning on getting a ring this month. Unfortunately with the quarantine, he's obviously unable to do so and neither of us feel comfortable spending that much money to buy a ring online that neither of us have seen in person.

Anyone else in a similar situation? And if not, anyone have experience with buying a ring online? Did it work out? Thanks!

To add, the ring isnt critical to getting engaged for me but he wants to be able to propose "the right way".

If you’re two consenting adults making wedding plans, congratulations, you’re engaged. Rings and proposals don’t make engagements.

Thanks! Trust me, I couldn't agree more personally haha. I've been trying to explain this to him but he says he feels bad not giving me that "perfect proposal" experience. Just trying to find a happy medium.

Technically, if you're actively planning your wedding (which it sounds like you are), congratulations! You're engaged! Like you said, the engagement itself does not need to have a ring to be official. There are many couples who never have rings! However, it sounds like he wants to do a well-planned proposal, which I understand. My ring and my fiance's wedding band both came from online sellers. I love my ring; it's beautiful and of a nice quality. I don't know exactly where he got it, but it was from an Etsy seller. I purchased my fiance's band from Staghead Designs. It's wonderful quality and a beautiful ring. They're a smaller company located in the midwest; they really want you to love their product. They make both men and women's rings, so that may be somewhere to look.

Thank you! I've talked to a couple people who bought their rings from Etsy. It seems to be hit or miss but sounds like there's some quality jewelry out there for sure, just gotta look for it. I'll also look into Staghead. Always happy to support fellow midwesterners!

I bought my FHs ring on etsy. It turned out awesome! Just read reviews and look at customer photos.

Not sure what the budget is, but FH got my ring online from Brilliant Earth and it’s perfect. I would definitely recommend checking it out. And like others have said, Etsy is great.

Congrats girl! Hint to your FH that you want him to propose without waiting for the ring if that's what you want. My husband proposed to me while my ring was being made because we were traveling in Tokyo and it was cherry blossom season and he felt that it was just the moment. You don't need the ring to be engaged. I took an engagement photo of my hand with a cherry blossom on my ring finger haha...you can get creative with a way to commemorate the date/proposal and get your ring when it is safe/possible to do so. These times are what they are, get engaged and enjoy being a bride to be! Smiley smile

I got engaged without a ring, or the perfect proposal. Once we've moved and settled into our new place (sometime next year) we'll look into getting me a proper ring, but until then it's not at the top of our list of priorities. I'm gonna wear it forever, so what's the rush?

Keep on doing your thing and planning your big day. You'll get the ring when the timing is right. Congratulations Smiley smile

That's a beautiful picture. The cherry blossom was a really creative idea.

We got engaged spur of the moment at a concert. He didn't have the ring yet. We ended up ordering both my engagement ring and my wedding band online and I absolutely love both of them!

We had planned our wedding without a ring for months until my husband surprised me with a ring a week before my mom, MIL and sister came to town to look at dresses.

You'll get it soon enough Smiley smile

I mean, you are engaged to get married. Even without the formalities of the ring and getting down on one knee, the intent is there to get married at some point in your lives. So congrats!!

Once you have agreed to marry, you are engaged. When or if you get a ring is no one's business but yours. So of you want to wait to be able to try on rings, that is fine.

My fiance ordered my ring from Midwinter.co and we are really happy with it (they are having a sale right now, which they NEVER do).

Your boyfriend could also propose with a placeholder ring. My friend's fiance did that and got her a gemstone ring and a silicone one, with the intention of them picking our her "real" engagement ring together. There is no reason your boyfriend couldn't get a less expensive ring for the time being and then you can get a more glamorous one (if you want) once things get better.

My fiance bought my ring from James Allen and it is absolutely beautiful! They also have a thing at Jared's where they will clean and maintenance it for you. Smiley smile
