AngelKidAllan, on January 16, 2014 at 2:05 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

I know A LOT of people make tutus for little girls, I want to make a tutu dress for my flower girl. Anyone have any idea the level of difficulty?

Its super easy!! Just watched a youtube video Smiley smile only took an hour or two

Edit: she didn't like the tulle too much, it was itchy Smiley smile but it was chilly that day so the little sweater worked perfectly!

She will be six when the wedding comes around. I want to have it with a top and just the skirt is like the tutu. I know I can do it just need to get a good tutorial.

I haven't made any FG tutu dresses, but I used to make tutus and tutu dresses to sell at raves. It isn't hard. If you want to make one where just the skirt is the tutu, you can simple sew the tulle to a leotard or a top. Otherwise, she can just wear a leotard and you can tie the tutu around her.

I am currently in the process of making them, they are pretty easy but a little time consuming. I am using the 6in tulle on a roll, so I only have to make one cut, and doing it in strips. The fist picture is my inspiration, the second is my first layer, the third is my sister trying on the first layer with the belt, I plan on adding at least one more layer. My flower girls are shorter than my sister (who is my Jr BM), so the dresses with be floor length, and they will have cream tub tops and leggins on underneath to keep the tulle off their skin.

I found the belts for $1.97 on clearance at Michael's and used coupons for the rest of the supplies, so for 2 dresses, it was $25!!!

If you are on facebook check out Sweet Pea Bowtique. I'm not sure how her prices are, but if you decide you would rather buy from someone than make, it's an option.

Either way- nothing quite like something homemade!

I learned to make these.. and now sell them online. I wouldn't say it's hard, but it is time-consuming figuring out which style you like best. I tried many different techniques until I figured out what I like best. There also is a huge difference in types of tulle. The tulle you get at Michaels is okay for older kids, but I wouldn't necessarily use it for a baby tutu as there are much softer options out there. You also will probably want to use fabric scissors if you have them. Good luck and hope they turn out well!

Ok, so I made my flower girl dress, I really don't like the front which is why I'm showing you the back shot (I think the back is cute). I'm changing the dress to the 2nd picture this weekend, since my BMs are wearing infinity dresses, I think it will be cute that my flower girl dresses are infinity dresses as well.

@Tash, the first pic is beautiful! I just ordered my tulle yesterday to begin my first dress. Questions, how many rolls did you use for the first look? Is the belt attached or just tied around her waist? Did you/are you putting anything underneath to avoid the itching/discomfort?
