Anyone not having a videographer?

Sarah, on May 11, 2022 at 3:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 23
We booked all of our vendors with mostly everything paid off for our wedding coming up in September … I just want to see if I’m the only one not having a videographer?

We didn't have one. In July, we'll be celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary and I can honestly say, I have not regretted it once. They are super expensive and we just couldn't justify the cost. That said, plenty of people watch theirs regularly. We are just not those people lol. So it all depends on if you think you would appreciate and watch it in the future.

Yeah honestly we about to book a harpist and I’d prefer a harpist over a videographer! I think pictures will be great memories for us

We didn’t book one either. And like above poster, we have a harpist! I think photos are enough. We are also doing the voice guestbook where guests will leave messages instead of signing a guestbook so we will have audio memories as well!

Yes! I’m wanting to have a harpist for our ceremony and cocktail hour and I feel like I’d rather spend the money on that then a videographer! Lol

We did not have a videographer but we did record and livestream the wedding ceremony. We used Lovecast which runs off an app on your phone for the recording. The phone was mounted on a tripod and my brother kindly helped man the tripod (pan as the bridal party enters durring processional, move tripod into the aisle and zoom in for ceremony, move back out of the aisle and pan to follow bridal party for recessional). It worked great and I would highly reccomend it if you are on the fence. The best part was that it was free! The only thing we paid for was the tripod. 👍

We’re not having a videographer either. I would love one but it’s out of our budget and I’d rather spend money on food. 😂

I know a lot of people who never got video and just did photos only. it's pretty normal!

I wont be. I just know I would watch it once as soon as I received it and then never again. Im far more likely to look at pictures and include them in other announcements and decoration

Having a videographer is really important to us, particularly for the vows. But if it's not a priority, I totally understand not wanting to spend the money. Our harpist is free (my harp teacher of over a decade offered to play the wedding)

We are because I know I'll rewatch it a lot, but I totally get that that's not something everyone is into.

We also live streamed the ceremony. It was a lot less expensive than a full-day videographer and we didn't really want any editing or someone following us around for the whole day, just an actual recording of the important events as they happened.

Honestly, I was pretty opposed to a videographer, but looking back I wish we'd asked for the speeches to be recorded too. Our photos are beautiful and great, but it's not possible for that to catch some of the tiny, sweet moments that happened in real life that you maybe didn't even realise were happening. Plus, seeing someone move and laugh and talk is so different from a still shot, and I know as the years pass, I will treasure watching the livestream again and seeing my dad get up and look confused about the ring warming ceremony because he didn't read the email I sent him with instructions, lol. It's a funny, sweet moment that wasn't captured in our photographs at all. Having a video of him and my mum dancing is meaningful too.

I think on reflection, videography isn't really for now, it's for later, when some of those dear family members have passed, it's so lovely to see them dance and laugh and love you all over again.

I’ll be getting one particularly for the ceremony and our first look. I know myself and I have a pretty bad memory so having video of both those things is important to me but I don’t think it’s necessary if you don’t want one

Same as Elycia. This is why we decided to splurge on photography with a second shooter + a photobooth instead of 1 shooter with the money we would have spent on a videorographer. We know we wouldn't watch it more than once if not at all. Having 2 shooters doesn't cost twice as much as one if both work together in the same business, though.

My future sister in law (fiancé's sis) got married 3 years ago, she and her husband did a videography, they don't regret it but they think it was too much money for what they got (how long the video is once edited).

We are not having one, couldn’t justify the cost cause we are paying for our wedding ourselves—I’m 100% confident our day will be captured beautifully in photos!

While we could have had a videographer had we wanted one (we had a very generous budget), we opted not to because we didn't see the need.

We are hiring one because while I may not watch my videos again. I wanted our day to be captured for the benefit of our grown children. We are also live-streaming for guests who are out of the country., and have hired two photographers. We don’t want to miss not one moment.

The only way in which you would regret not having one is when you originally had wanted to but then decided not to due to other people saying it's not worth it, the videos would be never looked at etc. My sister didn't want to have one and never regretted it. Also don't worry about what if you change your mind afterwards, there will be opportunities to make short videos, like combining stories you're tagged at via some Clipify or making a Smartshow 3d slideshow once the wedding pictures are ready.

We didn't hire anybody yet and we won't. We definitely WISH wr could have one, but we simply couldn't fit it into the budget. Instead, I'll make sure to have something set up to capture the ceremony because most of my fiancé's family can't make it due to the ongoing Covid policies in East Asia. 🥴 We already went over our budget somehow even being so conservative for a typical ceremony and catered reception... so really no space for video 😔
