Anyone NOT like 'Four Weddings'?

LadyHopkins, on June 5, 2012 at 12:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 28

I love looking at the dresses and flowers and venues but I just don't like the idea of it. So if your wedding is perfect for you and your situation but others have a problem with your dress and your decor, you lose. I just wouldn't want anyone 'judging' my day. It adds stress and takes the fun and sentiment out of it, just my opinion.

Well I think most women see weddings as a competition almost. We want the best wedding ever or better than the ones we've been to. I know I'm guilty of going to weddings and judging just a bit, or saying "I would do that, or I would never do that". So I see the show as more of a fun thing and the girls never seem cocky, they all seem to be having fun!

Haha ya. I haven't watched that in awhile..but even if a wedding is awesome and they feel threatened by it they can low score and give BS reasons for it lol. They really should have impartial people rate it, like strangers that aren't competing against each other to get a more accurate depiction. oh well! Guess that would get less ratings than drama :-)

I don't mind it. Our wedding will be what we want it to be. If it was me and I could make it so the other brides had the most fun at mine and could get a free HM or trip out of it great, if not I don't really care what they think, as long as we loved it...

I agree, I hate that it fosters competition. Especially from complete strangers.

It's one thing to go to other weddings and think of how you'd do things differently (we're human after all), but some of these girls are just full of BS.

I agree with you, I like watching what they wear, what decor they have, food choices but when it comes down to the woman let's just say there are a lot of "characters" on that show and some conceded spoiled woman, I can't stand that!! & the fact that it's so nit picky and if you don't have this or that or if the food wasn't to their liking etc... that wedding is out of the running.. I don't think it's worth the stress or time to win a free HM.

I think some brides deliberately low ball. I find that annoying.

Other than that I watch it to find out what we not to do at our wedding and my daughter's wedding. For instance, since she is having a big cocktail hour, I will make sure there are a lot of cocktail tables. Noone likes to hold a plate and a drink. How can you enjoy both? : ) I have learned a lot of other things too.

Actually, a WW bride, Katterina, was a bride featured on that show. She came in second, but deserved to be first, imho.

LOLOL Michelle, over the weekend there was a bride who spent $80K on her wedding. What the heck, she can afford a honeymoon. Sure enough, she did win.

It's sort of silly and I find it hard to believe that all some of those women depend on hopefully winning the show in order to get a honeymoon. From the looks of and from what they state their wedding budgets are, a lot of them could certainly afford to go on a weekend away or something. So I think it's kind of fake, but with that said, I find it entertaining to watch.

I think the concept behind it is kind of appalling but I still watch it. It's wedding porn. Instead of having to watch all the behind the scenes emotional crap on David Tutera's show, you get right to the point and see the good stuff!

I'm realizing that may not have come out exactly as I meant it. I didn't mean porn was "good stuff". lol.

Sorry. I'm working on our thank you notes and my eyes are bugging out of my head.

I love the show, but it often irritates me because I can see all these brides going "Oh, I'm giving her wedding a 4 because the ceremony was not in the shade." They hardly give good enough reasons when they give lower scores like that. It makes me so mad!

I agree Kris! I hate David Tutera. His shows have become so darn predictable and mellow dramatic. Whenever I have watched that show, I always think, noone has stuff that bad that they would advertise it. It's got to be fake.

I also don't like that they judge each other's dresses. I can get judging the food, and the music, and the cake and other stuff. But not somebody's dress. That just seems mean.

One girl the other day was like, "I give her dress a 4 b/c she barely stood out from her BMs." Um...her dress was white and the BMs were in black. Come on now.

David Tutera can be so cruel. He'll take an awesome wedding idea that really means something to the bride and groom and then call it tacky and give them a new one.

His show is painful to watch.

Laughter, The girls set themselves up for the ridicule to get that over the top wedding.

I really miss Platinum Weddings. I loved that show. I loved seeing that over the top stuff.

I agree, there is so much lowballing on the show, like they take off points for not having enough flowers or because there were mosquitoes or something, its totally ridiculous. And David Tuttera doesnt HELP the bride achieve her own wedding dream, he GIVES her one. I mean, they usually look great but I wouldn't want my ideas dragged through the mud.

LOL. Ya I refuse to watch David Tutera..I think once I watched part of it..DS and I sometimes catch the tail end of it..it seems pretty hokey. Then your wedding becomes all about David Tutera, sure it's blinged out but imo it kinda takes some of the attention away from the bride and groom. But again, that's their choice to go on the show/enter or whatever so if it works for them that's fine, I'd just never do it.

Oh and I totally agree with you krisalicious, the dress should be OFF LIMITS. Brides spend a great deal of time, emotion, money and even tears over the perfect dress. Someone else's opinion should not even matter on that one.

One of my couples was on the first season of "4". I didn't know the premise when I recommended it to them. They had a modest budget, but their wedding was really perfect for them. Of course they didn't win.

I think it's just kind of barbaric. I'd not recommend it again. Don't mind Tutera, but I honestly love Colin Cowie (he has a new wedding website). He is just a class act through and through.

@Carole, I know there are A LOT of brides on that show that have great budgets and a few that have modest & normal budgets. I think it's utterly BS that the person with the highest budget wins the HM (most of the time) you have the damn money to go and if you don't well maybe you should have set a lower budget to accommodate "Your dream HM" instead of taking the place of someone who already barley couldn't afford to have a wedding let alone a HM... it's a popularity contest & it's gross.

@Kris - LOL! wedding porn I guess it is to a lot of people. It does give good ideas though I'll give it that.
