Anyone planning a surprise dance/song/video for the big day?!

FinallyMrsT, on March 22, 2015 at 8:39 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 23

Do people actually do this?? I'm a total sucker for those videos of surprise dances at weddings...but who does that? It seems like sooo much work, even if it doesn't involve a bunch of people! In the back of my mind, I would kind of love to do some awesome choreographed ballroom routine with my dad, and somehow keep it a secret from FH and my mom (and everyone else). He's a good dancer, but I'm terrible, so that is extremely unlikely.

Is anyone planning a wedding surprise? Or did you successfully pull one off? (we can delete this later for safety!)

The last wedding I attended, the bride and her dad did a fun (but simple) choreographed dance that surprised everyone who was expecting a typical father/daughter dance. Nice and easy way for them to surprise everybody.

I'm not planning on it and FH isn't into that kind of thing. But my siblings are musical and have lovely voices so I did imply (not at all subtly) that if they want to do something sweet and tasteful, we can work it in.

Thinking about doing something with my dad. He is very excited about the possibility. YouTube provided a lot of great ideas.

H and I had photo montages that played on big screens during the Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dances. No one knew of the plan except me, H and the DJ. Our parents loved it Smiley smile

One of my friends will be celebrating her wedding anniversary 3 days after the wedding. She's not in the BP but has been so helpful in helping them plan the shower. I'm going to have the DJ make an announcement saying it's her and her husband's anniversary and have them come to the dance floor and dance.

If you have never seen it, look up "maid of honor rap" on YouTube! I have been begging my sister to do it but unfortunately I don't think I'm convincing her.

I wanted to break into a choreographed dance to "Fixer Upper" from Frozen in the middle of our first dance, but FH said no way. I wasn't 100% serious about wanting to do it anyway.

We will have the DJ announce and congratulate our guests with birthdays and anniversaries on that day. (one birthday and one anniversary)

@Tania - oh my gosh. That entrance is crazy! Too much concentration... I would totally forget what I was supposed to be doing. Hilarious though.

I'm not doing any thing special for me and FH. Just going to surprise my parents and have them do a 25th anniversary dance to their wedding song after the dad/daughter dance.

My dad and I have a tradition of requesting an AC/DC song at all weddings and air guitaring like crazy. I'm talking back to back, dropping to our knees kind of thing. TOTALLY dorky. But I think we'll probably throw that into our father daughter dance.

Also, my FH and I reeeeally don't like the usual wedding songs played- Cupid Shuffle, electric slide, etc so we're doing a like 4 minute mash up of all of those songs.

My 4 close girlfriends are all dance teachers (random, I know) and they are trying SO hard to get me to have some kind of fun flash mob. FH isn't convinced. I think it could be neat!

I shot a wedding a few years ago where the bride and her father broke out into a fun dance which then turned into a "footloose" inspired flash mob. It was great!

I love this! I'm surprised at how many people plan something like this...I'm so overwhelmed organizing the things that people DO need and expect -- fantasizing about getting a surprise together is nice, but actually doing it seems...like a reach haha

Love the surprise photo montage idea! That seems feasible for me.

On our first date FH took me dancing, so we love to dance. That being said we are by no means professional dancers. Smiley smile) We will be doing a surprise dance though, we are going to start with our first dance and will then go into a tango followed by a swing dance. We want to do one more dance to finish with but haven't decided on what yet. We are taking classes and are having so much fun doing it. Smiley smile) You guys are right though it is time consuming but it will pay off in the end. It is a complete secret from everybody except my MOH, hope we can keep it that way. For my quinceanera I did a surprise Baile Folklorico and all of our guests loved it.

We are planning on doing a surprise duet (we love to sing) during our first dance. So we will start out with a traditional dance then the music will change and we will break out in a fun but romantic duet and sing to each other. Nobody will know but our DJ. Everyone keeps asking if we are singing but we tell them HELL NO! It will be a nice little surprise plus I am not too fond of doing a long drawn out "first dance".

We had our entrance where the wedding party danced in to the reception then after they introduced us and we danced in the whole wedding party scattered and grabbed all of the guests to come dance before we actually did the formal first dance as husband and wife. It was kind of like an unchoreographed flash mob and it went over well. Lots of fun.

@Future Mrs. B -- That's so awesome, I'm jealous! I've said so many times to FH that I want to take ballroom lessons and do a little number for our first dance. I don't see this plan materializing though lol

Agree with Promike, long first dances are no good. That's a really sweet idea!

@FutureMrs, thank you and you still have time! Smiley smile) The way we decided was by finding a group on deal for dance lessons. Once we used up the group on we liked it so much we kept going!
