Anyone really nervous to see pics?

Powers2, on May 9, 2018 at 5:43 PM Posted in Married Life 0 26

My wedding was a few weeks ago, and it was a huge success. The dance floor was packed, my groom looked so handsome, the food was delicious and I got to spend time with a bunch of friends I had not seen in a while.

I historically don't like how I look in pictures, and to add to that, I only lost about 10 lbs (of the 30 I had wanted to lose) so I felt less than perfect in my dress. Some friends have sent me cellphone shots and 90% of them have me cringing. I hate how fat my arms look, I have a double chin and then some.

I am really, really nervous that there won't be one professional picture that I can look at without cringing. Am I alone in this fear? Someone tell me the professional pics will look better/ different than my friend's well meaning, but not so great looking pics?

You are not alone! I'm right there with you! Our wedding isn't until September, but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to lose the weight I want (unless I will the lottery tomorrow and can quit my job, lol!). I also am super critical of myself in pictures, and a little awkward when I try to pose. I still haven't booked our engagement session partially due to this.

But, as I heard others mention, people know what you look like, and anyone who cares for you will see nothing but beauty! I'm sure your pictures will be gorgeous!

Girl we are in the same boat and I haven't even had photos taken yet!!!!! I generally HATE photos that are taken of me, I don't trust anyone - even pros - to take a decent photo of me and it has me so stressed that I will hate my wedding photos Smiley cry
Perfect example is attached...Pic 1 I took at home right before leaving for event...pic 2 is the "pro" photo from event! My face looks totally different due to the pose and I'm dreading wedding photos where I can't be in control of the posing/angles etc..gaaaaah

You are SO not alone! I felt this way about both my engagement pictures and my wedding pictures!

I felt like I was eagerly waiting to get pictures back, then when I got the email from my photographer I had the total panic of "what if I hate them?!?" Trust your photographer and know that you will get tons of pictures back, and there will definitely be some you absolutely love! Smiley heart

I am right there with you!! I put on about 20 lbs after surgery and wasn’t able to lose it before the wedding. I hateeeee my arms and my chin. I’m so thankful my photographer knew this and would tell me to stick my chin out to make it look better but the candid shots uhhhhhh I hope I don’t look like a fat slob in the candids! I can’t wait to get my photos back but I’m hoping there are at least a few ones where I like how I look!

I was thinking about this the other day, because our engagement pictures are almost upon us. I am mainly just hoping my photographer is in touch enough to recognize when something is unflattering and I do not look my best, and either edit it out, or just not even show me lol

Right there with you. Doesn’t help that one of my bridesmaids is already rail thin and keeps telling me she wants to lose 10lbs before my wedding to look good. She already looks so amazing! I’m pretty sure I am going to look at my bridal photos and think I’m the ugly one of the group. At the wrong angles I look even worse though. Large neck/double chin thing. Especially when I laugh. Smiley sad so worried, but with all the stress I find it hard to lose any weight.

I was super duper disappointed with engagement photos. I'm even thinking of redoing them. I'm so ok with me for the most part! Mirrors aren't a problem but flash photography is my kryptonite.

@amandaaok Girl stop you're gorgeous. If I looked half as good as you in the second pic (which you deem unflattering) I'd be a happy ass clam. You have nothing to worry about.

But, I do get it. OP, it's a constant struggle. I didn't see any pics but I am sure you are just as beautiful as the next bride. While it is true we cannot control the angles the photographer captures (I am so nervous about some kind of jabba the hut type pics coming back in my wedding gown which is huge in itself) we can trust in them that they are pros, they do this all the time, and they know the best angles to shoot from. If you have a specific want of an angle tell them!! Or any you want to avoid.

I was mostly very happy with our engagement pics (I told her to utilize photoshop as much as possible) but some of the head- on pics make me CRINGE HARD when I see the excess weight on my face as it really is. I can manipulate a selfie no problem but sometimes you just have to let go and let God because people know the true you and your appearance. And they love you for it. Here's my example, but I am trying hard not to have an aneurysm over it. I guarantee you people on the outside are not as critical of you as you are.

    LOL @cbryns thanks.
That's the "fixed" version of that 2nd pic, too Smiley winking did nothing to the 1st..but the 2nd needed a lil help lol but the dress is super flattering and makes me look much thinner than I am (I am 5'5 and currently at 233lb but very pear shaped)...thats why I chose it Smiley xd plus my fat arms are hidden behind hot boys Smiley winking

100% with you. I have till October but the weight loss is going slow. Any time I see a picture of myself I want to gag at my double chin. I really want to not have that for the wedding. I know FH says I'm beautiful but I sure as heck don't look it in pictures.

I've been trying hard to lose weight and just can't. I'm hoping in the next few weeks I can really double down on it and lose just a few pounds, but it's really hard!!!!

I always cringe when I see myself in most pictures. I used to always be super skinny, but recently gained a good 60 pounds after college (and when I became secure in my relationship!) so it's really hard to see myself in pictures right now.

But when I got my e-pics back I LOVED them because the photographer knew how to angle me to make me look great. Usually in professional pictures they know more about angles and lighting, so I'm sure you'll love them when you get them back!

We are our own worst critics. We need to take it easier on ourselves. Our FS's see all the beauty in us (including our double chins). With that being said, I totally get where you are coming from, lol! I'm sure your pro photos will be beautiful though. Be sure to let us take a peek when you get them back!

Hey date twin! I gained 30 lbs during wedding planning Smiley sad , and hate pictures of me! I am one of the least photogenic people ever. I've only gotten my sneak peaks back, but there has only been one picture so far that I cringed when I saw it and haven't shared it anywhere because I hate it. A couple other pictures I'm not thrilled with how heavy I look but my photographer did a great job making me look good in the majority of them. I'm sure you are going to look beautiful!

Don't worry, your professional will have used better angles, lighting, etc. than cell phone pics - I hate how I look in cell pictures even after losing the weight I wanted, the ones my friends take are always at horrible angles and make me look like a washed out ghost with a double chin! But my photographer is a wizard and managed to turn out the best pictures ever for our engagement session. Don't stress, they will be gorgeous.
