Anyone trying C25K?

Rye, on August 17, 2014 at 1:31 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 19

So.. yesterday went to my dress fitting, and my dress fit... but it was scrunching all up near my love handles and it made my sash look really bad. I almost cried, because I am comfortable with my body.

I've seen some people on Facebook doing C25K, which stands for Couch to 5K. It's a free app on iPhone/droid for running and I'm going to give it a try. It takes 8 weeks! I have 3 till my next dress fitting and my wedding is 9 weeks away!

So anybody else complete C25K with success?

I used it for a few weeks but did not complete it. It's a great app though!

I am using a modified version of it to be able to complete a mile without stopping before the wedding. FH and I did a quarter mile the other day. Running has always been something very hard for me.

It's great and helps you start off slowly.

I have tried it (didn't quite complete) but it really is great. The interval training really makes you work, without pushing too hard. I hated running, but when I ran a full 20 minute for the first time (not much, I know), I cried like a baby on the tredmill.

I've completed it. It's really great. I didn't run the 5k in 30 minutes, but I could run the entire thing. I need to do it again and get back in shape!

Just be careful you don't eat ALL the extra calories you burn when you get further in. I did not lose a lot of weight running at all.

I have started it several times and got all the way to the start of week 8 and didn't finish it. But I am currently on week six day 3 and plan to finish!

I did it last year when I first started running. I completed it and then eventually worked my way up and completed a half marathon (13.1 miles) last april. It is a great program! Great for those who are new to running. I was new to running I hated it but I made myself complete it and grew to love running.

I am liking it, but I'm having shin splints bad certain days. Some days it goes very well.

Make sure you have good sneakers before you start that have support. This will help it be a little less painful.

Not a real version, just modifying it to work for FH and me.

We completed it last year! I went from not being able to run for 30 seconds, to being able to run for 1 mile! We had to cut ours a week short because of the weather so we didn't actually complete it. I finished the 5k in 30 something minutes, which was great considering I could barely run 30 seconds to begin! I lost 5-10 pounds. Can't remember. But that is an excellent program. You can also have it play songs on your iPhone instead of just having the app be silent. You select a song and then it quiets the song and tells you to start walking/running.

Finished week 6 day 3 last night! One more week and I'll be as far as I've ever gotten. Two more weeks and I'll be ready to move onto a 5k to 10k program!!

I did week 1 day 1 yesterday and so far while it slightly kicked my butt, I think its great - very easy to build up to.

For those that have done it, do you really only do 3 per week or do you sometimes do it faster?

Because weather is so unpredictable where I am (Northeastern Ohio, where there are more rainy/snowy days than not) we just did it when we could. Sometimes 4 days a week, sometimes 2 days. We did it in early 2013 for a 5k the first weekend in May. So we had A LOT of snow days where we couldn't run. It's too hilly where we ran. My old neighborhood has a hill that you need a parking brake on when you park your car on the street.

Feel free to contact me anytime: *******.*******@*****.*** . With gratitude, Lyne

I was watching Extreme Weight Loss last week and the host said something VERY important -- run training and weight loss are two different goals and you go about them in two different ways. You almost have to compromise one in favor of the other because they require opposite things. If you really want to be able to run longer distances, awesome, but to do it correctly you probably won't lose too much weight during that time. And same vice versa.

I just signed up for a 5k on September 28th ... and I haven't started training yet Smiley sad I can run probably a mile on the treadmill without stopping, maybe longer, but outdoor running is difficult for me. I'm starting my training today. Looked at a few C25K type things but haven't decided on one since I don't quite have enough time to get through one at this point Smiley sad

I'd love to lose weight but I'm doing it more just to get in shape and feel better about myself. Getting old sucks!
