Anyone use a wax seal on invites?

BreeCheez, on December 23, 2014 at 7:59 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

& have any luck? Came out good/bad? Was it worth the trouble?

It's only going to be about a $20.00 more to buy the tools I need. I saved a lot of money on my invites doing them myself... However it seems like this might be unnecessary when I really think about it...

Just debating & could use some input on every ones experiences.

Invites: kraft brown envelopes, cream color card stock with antler & Shades of teal flowers, & a vellum overlay with black words on it. RSVP's carry same design.

I've wanted to use wax seals, but I think our modern style invites won't work with it. :/ Good luck!! It looks very classy!

Its a cute idea, but I worry about them getting ruined by the post office. I had numerous invitations ripped in half, water damaged, etc. They told me it was due to the machine.....I even hand canceled them. So I worry an extra thing on the back for yours would give you problems

Yes I did this with my first wedding. It adds to the weight, btw, so your postage goes up.

As Janeen said, don't forget it weighs something, and the machines at the PO can wreck havoc!

They're very pretty however I find them kind of "Renaissance" looking so I don't think it matches all wedding styles. I think the color you chose would be very important as well.

    How about a sticker instead?

I hadn't thought about a sticker. I have printed everything at home, so I could probably find a template that will let me upload the antler/flower design to a sticker to seal. Thanks for the idea @Celia

I wanted wax seals, but didn't want them to get ruined or pay more for postage, so we did a cute stamp on the back envelope flap on the invitation and a coordinating stamp on the RSVP envelope flap. I found a really pretty teal ink -- teal is one of our colors! I stamped all of them one night and let them dry overnight just to make sure nothing got smudged.

I love wax seals, but I don't mail envelopes with them.

How about an embosser that you can dust color on?

We're doing wax seals, but the wax sealed envelope will be inside another envelope so they wont get wrecked

Carlson Craft offers a lot of embossed gold and silver foil sticker/seals to choose from. They are about $4.50 per 25. You can also order personalized ones for a bit more. Find a dealer near you and shop online at www.carlsoncraft.com

A gf did them, but they were much to formal for her casual invitations. consider the weight for postage and the drying time to avoid a mess. other than that, its straight forward.

I wouldn't, only because the post office will mess it up. We got two of our invites back because they sent them through the sorter (even though we paid extra for hand stamping), and they were torn, bent, and the address ink was somehow rubbed off.

We did. We used the glue gun wax which was fast and easy to use and it's a bit more durable than plain wax because it's a bit more malleable. I asked a few friends who received our invites and they said they arrived in one piece. Our invites were VP and with the basic paper and added ribbon and it was within the normal postage amount (but weigh your invite to be sure!).

It was a lot of fun and everyone loved how they looked!

My FH is oddly obsessed with this idea. He bought a stamp and gold wax. I'm not sure he thought about it possibly upping our postage costs.

We are not doing that, but I received an invitation from a friend that had a wax seal and I thought it was a nice touch. I wouldn't have even considered that it added cost to the postage. Good to know.
