Anyone use or attempting to use a gopro to video parts of their wedding?

HereComeTheYorks, on October 1, 2015 at 2:25 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 27

I am really interesting in learning more about this. We are probably skipping a videographer, but would still love to have our vows and some of the fun on video. I have seen mentioned a few times about people using go pros.

Can you share your ideas on how you got your vows recorded and any other fun stuff you videoed. Any tips would be great!

Also what kind of go pro do you have?!

I have the very most basic gopro. We didn't use it for the wedding, although I planned to. I was just too busy to remember and left it plugged into the wall. The biggest downfall of that gopro is that it doesn't have an interchangeable battery, so you have to plug it into the wall (or car) to charge it, and it only lasts for about an hour and a half.

So far I've used mine to record our trip down to Phoenix (mostly the scenery of the roads along the way) and me riding horses. I'm not pro at it...at all. But I'm learning!

One of my BMs had one and used it to record some random parts from the reception. They are pretty funny. I meant to have someone video the ceremony and TOTALLY forgot, wedding fail.

The biggest thing about the gopro's is that the accessories are so damn expensive. Oh, you want to wear it on your chest? $50. You want to put it on your dog? $70. You can a basic clap for it to put it on things? $30. Selfie sticks are easier to come by for it for cheaper because it's probably the most popular attachment, but the rest of them are super pricey.

My brother in law is a Navy diver and gopros all their training courses and has a YouTube channel, his videos are amazing. However, most of them are just handheld or strapped to his head. I would suggest a tripod for the ceremony and then just hand it off during the reception, the videos would still be pretty cool. Like KM said, you might not be able to film a ton with the battery life but maybe just a few moments from each part of the event?

We actually filmed the whole night on one battery? I mean.. obviously no filming during dinner.. but got all of the ceremony, dances, toasts and people congratulating us. It was great!

This is the one we got for any one looking.

We have one and hope that our videographer can put a clip of our gopro video from us launching his car can be put into our video (someone said their videographer suggested it and I thought it was so cool I stole the idea, so thanks whoever that was!)

I've also seen something online about attaching it to a fireball bottle or whatever so that you can see everyone drinking it lol.

This is what the front of our ceremony area looks like so a tripod will probably be a must have since there is nothing to place it on. But good news... I found a cheap tripod on amazon! Progress!

Yes! Our photographer adds in complete gopro footage of the wedding for free, so that was a no brainer. Smiley smile They attach it to the top of the doorway at the entrance to the chapel.

We just got a gopro last week (Hero4 Silver), if you get it at best buy, it comes with a $50 Best Buy Gift Card. We got some footage this weekend and FH cut this: https://vimeo.com/140889554

We have the silly idea right now that we might get a drone and get some footage of that and include it in our video (FH will cut the video, we are only getting the footage from the videographer, so we can include whatever else Smiley smile ).

Our DJ has a gopro that he will wear for the reception. We have some fancy digital camera (don't really know much about the darn thing) but it's a Canon rebel something or other and we will record the ceremony with it.

I have the Hero3PLUS (the addition sign doesn't show when I type it) Black Edition right now and plan on getting a 4 as well before we get married.

I have this GoPole - LOVE it for underwater snorkel video and getting up in animal faces hahaha

We bought this kit - we like the chest and head strap a lot!

These are just from my past Amazon order history but I know FH has bought some other goodies on eBay and Amazon. I also bought really awesome floaty wrist straps for it - awesome for snorkeling!

We just got a knock off 'gopro' for much less expensive (the SJCam SJ4000). We have been testing it out with bike rides, on the dogs, walking around, swimming... so far it is amazing! We are planning on setting it up on a tripod during the reception, as well as having it set up to record our barn transformation since we are doing it all ourselves. We got a spare battery for it as well. We have been ordering all of the accessories from Amazon.
