Officially Mrs. B, on October 28, 2014 at 1:27 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 18

FH and I absolutely love the idea of using sky lanterns for our exit. Have any of you used them? What's the best deal you have found? Thanks in advance!!!! Smiley smile

I did not use them but have been to two weddings where they have and it is so cool and makes for some great photos!! My only suggestion to you is to double check with your venue to make sure it's allowed. The last wedding we attended, a guy from the hotel came out and yelled at us for doing it because of potential fire hazards (one got stuck in a tree on the way up). Just would hate for you to spend the money and not be able to use them!

Agree with Elyse- in MN they are illegal, so we could not do them, but they are super cool!

We plan to use them but have yet to purchase them! I don't know exactly where to get them but I need 100 of them if anyone has any reasonably priced suggestions!

I really wanted to use them! But my venue is a historic site, so we actually aren't allowed to have any fire near the main building.

At weddings, no...at camping(NASCAR...lol) yes. 1st like Elyse said, definitely check with venue, local fire department. 2nd..when lighting them: BE PATIENT!! We screwed up a few a t first..lol. you have to let it burn enough to fill the lantern, while keeping it moving slightly. But the sight of them filling the sky IS beautiful!! We bought from local vendors and paid between 5/$20-25. I know there are sites where you can have wedding designs on them. Just Google sky lantern...a few will pop up.

I was considering it I still kinda am a few things, like the other ladies said check if they are allowed. Next try to get biodegradable if you can I found a place that sells them. Lastly, i read a few complaints that they are hard to open and light at times so buy a few extra.

    heres the place i found:http://www.justartifacts.net/allchskyla.html

I just bought 100 of them for $53.70 from amazon. IDK how well they will do and I am sure some will fail but I am gonna try them anyways and I am hoping for a few good pics. As long as I get a few good pics out of them, I will be satisfied! Fingers crossed!!!

    Thanks everyone! We'll definitely check the ordinances out. I had found 50 for $39.95 on walmart.com. @FMZ- That's a fantastic price! !!

I wanted them until I saw this couple at a park try to do one and fail horribly and almost start a fire....the problem?.....there was a slight breeze that night.

Haven't seen it done at a wedding, but we did it at our family reunion and it was awesome! Great moment and even greater pictures! We got ours at a local store (the town literally only has 1000 people so prices are low). So not much help on where you can get them.

    I say go for it!

We'll be using them since our ceremony is right around sunset. We'll write messages for passed loved ones and release the lantern. We may order enough to use at the end of the night weather permitting.

We did sky lanterns at our wedding and it was an absolute hit! By that time our photographers had already left so unfortunately no pictures, but I got mine off of JustArtifacts.net. They have very pretty colors, but around $1.00 each. You can probably find a better deal through Ebay or Amazon.

They look cool but the thought of a possible fire or accident scares the daylights out of me.

I had a friend who did them on Clearwater Beach. No consequences that I know of. She got hers on Amazon.

Others are right...it is very important to make sure you wait to they have enough hot air in them to gently rise on there our. If you rush them along, and try to push them into the sky when they are not ready they can be a fire hazard! We had one come down in a tree last year. I had to run with a 10 feet ladder and throw a bucket of water to put it out. We are in the middle of a 100 year old apple orchard. We do still allow them to used, but limit the amount going up at a time to 5...so we are able to carefully monitor they are full on enough hot air. They truly are beautiful, and make great photos. Sad news.... the more I research, the more it looks like we won't be able to use the lanterns. Bummer! I did, however, find a flameless option. ... LED balloons!!!!!!!! Smiley smile

Most of my venues won't allow them.
