Anyone who doesn't buy a new dress for each upcoming event?

Michele, on October 29, 2020 at 7:41 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 18
Whether you're a guest at a wedding or a bride attending pre-wedding events. Does anyone stick mainly to what they already own? Especially with layoffs and such due to Covid, where just making ends meet may be a challenge. And even before then.

I don't typically buy a new outfit when I go to weddings as a guest (unless I'm in wedding party). I usually stick to dresses I already own.

Unless I'm in the wedding party and have to buy a specific bridesmaids dress, I almost always wear something that I already own. I have a few formal dresses and a couple super formal dresses, and I tend to alternate them when attending weddings. I honestly can't recall ever buying a new dress specifically to attend someone's wedding as a guest.

I wear what I have, unless it’s my family, we usually custom-made our clothes. I sometimes alter my dresses to make it look different 😉

For me it depends on what the event is and who it's for lol. Sometimes I wear old things sometimes I wear new

As a guest, I'll wear something I already have. I did buy new dresses for my bridal shower and rehearsal dinner, but I picked dresses that weren't super bridal, and I've worn them both since then.

Most of the time I just wear what I already have. Even for my own wedding events (except for the wedding gown) I wore what I already had for things like the rehearsal and such.

I totally didn’t buy anything new! For my shower and rehearsal dinner I wore dresses I already had! Same as when I’m a guest at a wedding aha I don’t really see the point of buying a new dress when I had plenty I hadn’t worn much to begin wtih

I’m a big fan of sustainable shopping practices so I’m trying to avoid buying new things as much as possible! If I do buy anything new, I’ll try to choose something I can wear many times after.

I have limited wedding guest outfits so I stick to what I own or borrowing. I have a cousin & a friend who I’m close to in size, & I’ve frequently traded dresses with for events (including prom!).

I’ve bought a few dresses for different events, but now I have enough that I don’t generally get anything new for a wedding.

I mean, I'm usually a starving artist, so I usually go with what's in my closet. Every so often I'll splurge, but then I'll use it again. I've been lucky enough to have a few "red carpet" events, so I either dig out one of those dresses, or use a dress I bought for weddings for them.

For my own wedding events, I’m definitely purchasing new outfits. For weddings I’ve attended, I usually buy at least something new each time (even if it’s just jewelry, shoes, a new clutch etc). Sometimes I wear what I have and other times I buy new attire. Just depends on how I’m feeling.

I always buy something new. I’m a “I only want to be photographed in a particular outfit once” person and I LOVE fashion. So an event is an excuse for me to have a reason to buy yet another outfit. If you left me to my own devices I’d have a kitchen, a bathroom a bedroom and everything else would be closets 😂.

Yes! I'm very frugal and I never buy new stuff for prewedding events.

I say if you have it in your closet (and like it), wear it! We girls spend so much money on dresses, then only wear them once or twice. I say get as much use out of them as possible!

I always wear what I already have when I go to a wedding unless nothing I have is suitable for the formality of the event. That said, I own several wedding appropriate dresses. I won’t wear the same one to a wedding that has the same guests as another. (For instance, I wore a different dress to my brother’s wedding than my sister’s wedding.) If I run out of things, I’ll buy something new before I wear the same dress around all the same people. No one would care except me, but it would still bother me. I have a favorite dress that I’ve worn to multiple events, but the guest lists were entirely different.
I did purchase outfits for my bridal shower and rehearsal, though. I wanted white, ivory, or blush and didn’t own anything in those colors. I got good deals on them, and they’re perfect, so I don’t feel bad about getting them.

I have two "wedding guest" dresses one for hot weather and one for cold that I have worn to the last 6 years of weddings and "fancy" events like company parties and date nights. I wear the same clothes for years. Still have my homecoming dress I wore all four years in high school that I keep just in case as it is stretchy material so fits me still. Putting on a different jacket and accessories does wonders.
Planning on wearing one of those dresses for my pre-wedding events, will pick which when closer to the event.

It depends on the wedding, if it’s my FH circle of friends I wear what I have.....bc I don’t care lol but if it my friends then I might get something new. I rotate my clothes so much. Stuff I’ve lost interest in or don’t like anymore I get rid of.

It depends, if the wedding or event asks for a specific color I will buy an outfit. If not I’m wearing something I already own.
