Appetizer and food stations

#TiffaniLovesJohn, on May 28, 2018 at 1:32 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
Hi everyone - we will be having an appetizer and filet slider and pasta station with drinks reception. We will still be announcing us, first dance and cake cutting. Do you think we should have a seat for everyone? Someone suggested that isn’t needed. We could do some regular tables and some high top bar tables. We are having about 85 people. Thoughts?

Please have a sit for every butt. How are people gonna decide who gets a seat and who doesn't? I know that I would leave as soon as I found out that I don't have a seat. 😞

Why wouldn't you have a seat for everyone?.....

Also, what time is your wedding? If it's at a meal time, you need a full meal, not just one station and appetizers.

Definitely need a seat for everyone. The only time you can get away with having mixed seating is for cocktail hour but for the whole reception everyone needs a seat. No one wants to stand and be holding a drink while trying to eat pasta.

Thanks everyone, this is what I had thought too. Especially since it’s in November and most people will have a coat or a jacket at the very least. I know I’d like a chair to call my own.

If you're doing a cocktail style reception, you can still have a mix of tables/seating and a seat for everyone. The idea is that people should be mingling, not tied to their tables. We're doing this with a mix of high top tables, four tops, and more casual seating. I don't expect everyone to be sitting at one time, but they will be able to if they want,

May I ask what you are having for your reception (food I mean)? What is the length of it? I want to make sure we have plenty of food. We were trying to do something fun and more casual than the traditional sit down dinner. Thank you!

Our wedding is in New Orleans so we're having some traditional New Orleans foods. Appetizers (some passed, some stationary - I always find that passed apps don't make it to everyone) and a few stations including a gumbo station and a grits bar, which is basically like when people do a mashed potato bar except with grits so we have BBQ shrimp, andouille sausage and the like, plus veggies, cheese, etc. There will probably be one more thing I haven't decided on. Our reception is roughly three hours with food continuously served, though apps will come out 45 minutes before heavier foods. We're doing this over a meal time and while it's small plates, there's filling food.

We were originally going to do 3 hours but now we are thinking 4 hours. What time is your reception starting. Ours starts at 6pm. Maybe we should do our filet slider station, pasta bar and I’d like to do one more heavy station. Plus we are doing a cold station with salad, shrimp, crudités and fruit. Any ideas of what else.

Our reception starts at 6pm as well. If you don't have any, maybe some passed appetizers? When I was looking at possible timelines, it was suggested that the food be served in "waves" so that lighter foods are presented first, followed by heavier "meal" type foods. Your caterer should have some insight about that.

I’m also doing a cocktail reception with heavy appetizers and several food stations. I definitely feel like everyone needs a place to sit and a table to put their drink/plate on. I’m having a carving station and I would hate it as a guest if I had to stand and try to balance my drink and cut a piece of meat.

Would you be able to tell me what you are having? We were doing 6 hot passed apps and a filet slider carving station, ceaser salad station and a pasta station. Then desserts. But maybe we need to add another station or another app or two?

I would have seating for everyone since sliders and pasta are bigger meals you don't want to eat standing up. I personally don't like high top bar tables for longer than cocktail hour, especially since I'm usually in heels.
