We are thinking about moving our reception to be appetizer and dessert only. No bar or full dinner. It’s on a Sunday and we have to be done by 10. I keep seeing things to have the receptions later after dinner like 8 for appetizer only but then our reception will be too short. Is it really that...

And ceremony at 5. There is a brunch elopement. Ahead of us at the venue, so we can’t go early in the day either.

I’ve been to weddings that have made heavy apps work in lieu of a meal, but they had 10-12 options and continually refilled them over the course of a few hours and had some kind of station (pasta or carving have been the ones I’ve seen) in addition to those options. That’s really the only way these events don’t leave people hungry at a meal time and usually that’s just as expensive, if not more expensive than a meal.

A four hour reception with no meal and no bar is longggg. That coupled with a Sunday—I doubt the majority of guests will stay past 8 pm.

I think you could make just appetizers work, but only if you have enough appetizers to equate to a full meal - i.e., the volume of food has to be the same. At that rate I'm not sure if it would be cheaper.

I can definitely fill up on appetizers and I like them so I wouldn't mind, but there would have to be enough to eat.

We were never have a bar to begin with, so that’s not something that we are trying to cut. Our venue doesn’t allow alcohol either.
