Hi! We're having a low-end budget wedding, and we decided we would like to do an appetizer/dessert reception. Reception will start at 8pm after a 30 min ceremony. I agree that more food is needed. Either taking away a couple options and adding more to other ones or just adding more overall. I would definitely be adding some type of alcohol punch. I know you said you want the evening reception, however evening receptions are usually known to be more elegant/formal verse just a cocktail reception. I would urge to do it in the afternoon, but in the end it's your decision. Just make sure there is no confusion on the guests part and that the invites advise your intention in a tactful way.

Maybe look into adding a potato station/bar? We were at a wedding that offered this and it was a huge hit, and if I remember correctly the bride said it was budget friendly. The potatoes would filling and could help guests to fill up quicker and leave feeling satisfied.

ETA: I'd cut back on desserts and up the amount of actual food available.

Updated to let people know we decided to have Mexican food catered instead of dealing with the appetizers!

And yes there will be soda.

I learned the hard way, as a caterer, that putting apps out on a buffet is asking for the four teenage boys in the room to make them disappear. I think you made a good call.

We're considering having a light menu for our reception, but our wedding is scheduled for 2 in the afternoon. For an evening ceremony, I don't think appetizers are the best option. Are you able to change the time?

Oops, just saw you decided to go with Mexican. Great!

Love the menu but more i would add more pieces. for every options, it should be 3 pieces per person to have enough food. so just increase the potions and you should be ok

I see that you've switched which is a really good idea. How old are the kids and can you maybe do something for them in a separate area? A tray of macaroni and cheese or pasta? Or even pb&j sandwiches?
