April 18th Wedding Stress/pandemic

Lauren, on March 11, 2020 at 7:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 41

We are getting married in 37 days in Charlotte, NC. Our bachelor/bachelorette parties are both coming up. Mine is next weekend in Nashville, TN and his is the weekend after in Miami. I am so excited and stressed at the same time. I am excited because we have been planning for over 1 year now and stressed because of in light of recent events a lot of emphasis has been placed on travel (will it happen, is it safe, where are you going, etc). We have over 240 guest who have RSVP'd to attend my FH family will all be travelling either by plane or car from TX and MA. We live in California and will be travelling to the wedding ad for our HM in Hawaii. Most of my family will be local, but we have guests coming internationally from Europe who have already booked flight and hotel. My concern with all the travelers and safety precaution around this current pandemic. We are getting some people approach us about the virus headlines saying they don't feel safe travelling. We have so much to travel for between the parties, wedding and honeymoon. I cannot rest thinking about what will happen next.

So far, our wedding planning is still full steam ahead and we will have the wedding regardless(if I can help it). I just hope there is no ban on events in Charlotte, NC or anything governmental that may limit our chances of having our wedding as planned. If people do not want to travel we respect their decisions not to. Their health being the absolute most important thing, but this wedding is happening. We are too far down the rabbit hole now. Our entire wedding party has their dresses/tux, money has been spent for flights and accommodations (in most cases with those that are travelling).

We never thought about a pandemic as we were planning so most of the money is already spent. Not to mention the emotional toll it's taking on us as we want to be excited about the next few weeks but every day it is something else going on with the news and its not looking good for any large events.

I think everything will be okay even if our total guest counts decreases due to this, I really want to have my wedding regardless. Here's to hoping all the other April brides are okay right now!

Mine is at the end of May and I feel like that's just enough time for all this stuff to peak! Ours is 200ish guests and I'm really hoping the same thing, that there aren't any regulations that occur that stop the wedding. It really does feel like an extremely unlucky time to be planning a wedding, that's for sure!
As far as I can tell, though, I don't think they're going to do anything drastic until there's more threat than just people 'catching' it. Almost everyone is recovering.

I totally feel your stress. We’re having our April 25th wedding at my sisters house - so, I’m not concerned about a ban on events. I’m more concerned about vendors cancelling, guests not being able to fly, and getting more declines than we anticipated. As we’re waiting for 35 more RSVPs, guests coming from Michigan and Texas to our Tennessee wedding - I fear that a lot of them will decline due to this scare. I agree that their health comes first. But, it’s hard not to feel upset about it at the same time.

Good thing you will be at your sis house and do not have to worry about the stress of a commercial venue. What is your total guest count?

We haven’t thought about contingency but I guess we could have a gathering at my sister or nieces house. I believe family locally will come for most events but I think Europe people won’t for you. I’m sorry for that. I’m thinking live streaming or FB live somehow.

Yeah thanks to posts on here I have been thinking more about live streaming. I am so sad for our European guests we attended all of their weddings and now they may not be able to return the favor!

We invited 79, but we were expecting around 50 to actually come. So far, we have 33 yes’s and waiting on 35 people to respond.

You should be fine!! I think having a smaller wedding in this climate will work best! I'd send or nudge everyone personally you're waiting to hear from.

Yes april seems to be the rough time. I am desperate for us to get to the date and still be able to hold weddings. As much as I'm trying to stay positive, it sucks. Especially with all the self quarantines. I'm trying to take it one day at a time, and I'm trying to keep breathing. Hopefully this cools off and we can relax again.

Girlfriend, stay positive! I just had my bachelorette party last weekend in Nashville and traveling was totally fine! As for travelers international that’s touchy because parts of Europe have had so many cases!

AWW That's great! I was really excited about Nashville. I am flying from California to Charlotte then driving with my bridesmaids to Nashville so thankfully I'm ok with the traveling piece but I'm so nervous that it will be a dark cloud over the weekend next weekend. I hope Nashville is a blast that its planned to be! I dont wanna scare my bridesmaids they planned everything I'm staying positive! Just worried about the wedding day and people not wanting to come!

It’ll be just fine!! Just wash your hands a lot and be conscious since it’s crowded down there!! But it is SOOO much fun! My one recommendation besides Broadway, is to do the wagon ride! It’s $30 a person for 3 hours, you BYOB and dance without doing the any of the work!!!

Hi my wedding is in Charlotte, NC as well and we are honeymooning in Hawaii! That’s so funny I think nothing has been canceled there. Noah’s event went bankrupt so that venue closed and a lot of couples weddings were cancelled.
