April Wedding

Jeni, on April 19, 2021 at 9:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

My fiance' and I are getting married next April to keep costs low. Is anyone else having an April wedding? If you already had an April wedding, was the weather good? Im worried about the day being rainy and not sunny.

My wedding is March 12, 2022 and I am so worried and upset about the potential for cold and rain! But there are other family events so this is the LATEST date we were "allowed" to choose unless we waited until late 2022... Sorry I don't have any advice, but I'm right there with ya girl! fingers crossed for both of us!

I’m getting married April 9, 2022. We are also trying to keep the costs low, so we slashed our guest list in half and rented a historical home. I was strictly opposed to an outdoor wedding because I did NOT want to worry about the weather! The house was so beautiful though that we thought it would be a waste not to get married inside, so we aren’t too concerned...but we’d definitely prefer that it be sunny!

We are getting married in 2 days in Wilmington NC! April weather down here is super nice with a low chance of rain so while we were planning, it wasn’t too stressful thinking about weather. It’s gonna be 70 and sunny on Thursday so I’m pumped!

I'm getting married this Saturday outside in Avila Beach, CA (on the central coast). Weather should be about 60 and partly cloudy. The venue has heaters, so I think we'll be fine. A good amount of our guests prefer a little cooler weather anyway, as do FH and I. To be fair, April around here usually doesn't have much rain and the rainy days that happen are usually at the beginning.

You can't control the weather, so the best you can do is plan for it. Certainly it rains more in some places during some seasons but the reality is that any of us could have a rainy wedding. So when you tour venues, ask what their rain plan is.

Ours is to move the ceremony into the covered patio. Our venue is water front so yeah it would stink to not get married with the backdrop of the bay, but the ambience of rain falling on the tented patio with lots of candles is super romantic. And as my photographer pointed out, even on a rainy day it usually doesn't rain all day, so there would most likely still be opportunities for some good outdoor photos. Not to mention that overcast lighting is WAY better for pics than a bright sunny day!

Alternatively, you can look for venues that are entirely indoors to essentially eliminate this problem. There are lots of museums, libraries, mansions, etc that are gorgeous!

We got married on March 20 in Texas and the weather was absolutely perfect. But I was worried before, too. But a summer wedding doesn't guarantee you great weather either. If it's too hot that's not fun. One of the best weddings I've been to was in June and it was pouring rain and the bride and groom got soaked on their way to the church. But they didn't mind and it was a great and fun wedding.

Just make sure you're prepared for different types of weather. Is your ceremony and/or reception inside or outside? Let guests know beforehand if it's outside, so they are prepared. Talk to your venue about a backup plan. Talk to your photographer about a plan for rain.
You can't control the elements - whatever season you choose. There are a lot of other elements of your wedding day you can't control either - the same in life. Don't worry, you are marrying the love of your life and it will be beautiful no matter what.

Jealous! I wanted an April wedding so bad! I had to settle for June since I'm a teacher.

I just had my wedding on April 17, 2021 in North Carolina and the weather was perfect! No rain and a high of 66 and low of 47. It wasn’t cold at all and it was nice to not get above 70 so we didn’t have to worry about guests sweating or feeling uncomfortable.

    Hello Jeni!

We're getting married on April 2022 for several reasons: Avoiding the peak wedding season to keep costs low is one of them.

One common option is to put up a tent on the grounds. To go this route, check with the venue to make sure a tent is allowed on the property, and whether or not you need to work with a specific vendor.

You can consider a venue with 2 large spaces: indoor and an outdoor!

Some outdoor venues have an indoor option should weather not cooperate. It might cost extra to reserve an extra space(but some include this in their package), but if it means keeping everyone dry and warm, it's well worth it.

This is what my fiancée and I are doing.

The good news is that a backup plans isn't all or nothing. If looming rain isn't forecasted to fall until late into the evening, you can still hold a portion of your event outdoors, such as your ceremony and cocktail hour, and then move the dinner and dancing inside when wet weather strikes.

April weather can be super variable, depending on where you are from. I'm in New Hampshire and this April I went to a baby shower that was 70 degrees, sunny, and beautiful and then a week later we had heavy, wet snow.
