Arch? Pillars? Nothing?

Tiffany, on December 12, 2012 at 3:31 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 19

What are you getting married under? Our venue (a hotel) doesn't have anything that we can use so I either have to buy/rent something or have nothing. So I'm looking for ideas to decide. We will be getting married on a stage in front of these windows.

My venue has built in arches, which was why Josh and I chose the steps of the little church house!! In the gathering area, a mesquite hangs over one way, and an elm hangs over the other!

I have seen people use fake trees, balloons, arches, candle stems... I know some craft shops actually rent them, like Hobby Lobby!

A lot of it depends on your style/theme... personally, with the view out the windows, maybe just frame the particular windows the stage is in front of in tulle or netting? Drape it down the sides and across the top... gives a dreamy feel, it's super cheap, in TONS of colors, and easy to manage without being fussy! Just a thought Smiley smile

Personally, I would drape with some type of fabric. I love the whimsical look Smiley smile

I didn't have anything either...One side of my ceremony room was wall to ceiling windows so I didn't feel like I HAD to add anything but I wanted us to stand in between SOMETHING..

    SO I made something...

I bought two rich burgandy tablecloths and drapped them two pillars of three boxes that copy paper comes in. Then I purchased two floral centerpieces (for 50% off at Michaels) and placed one on each stack. Voila..

EDIT - I took 3 copy paper boxes and stacked 3 of them together to make one pillar then drapped the tablecloth over it. I'll try to upload a picture later.

Those are good ideas. I think we're both at a point where if its going to be too pricey we won't have anything. But I do want to have something up there.

I did find one - but its in black and white and the groom and "best chick" kinda block it but you get the gist.

I also bought 4 faux mums that I but at the base of the each "pillar". You can see the tops of them in this pic.

We're not doing anything but a bunch of candles on a wall ledge behind us. We thought about making an arch or renting one, but after realizing we would have to get it there and take it out I said scratch the whole idea - too much hassle.

Maybe you could do a drape in front of the window your marrying in front of?

Spicy that sounds great, please share pictures Smiley smile

Ashley - I felt the same way about an arch. Also - what the heck was I gonna do with it when I was done.

When the ceremony was over the venue staff took my flowers and added them to the decor of my brunch buffet.

The copy boxes came in handy packing up stuff at the end of the night!

    The cost for everything..

Tableclothes: $40 for 2 - and I use them on my current table

Copy Paper boxes: FREE - I work in a legal dept and we get them in - A LOT

Flowers: $30.00 Use your Michaels coupons and/or buy your centerpieces buy them at end of season.

@Miranda P.: Actually, there was some considerable doubt as to whether I could make that. LOL I hadn't sewn anything since high school--i.e., about 40 years ago. I had no pattern. And the project involved 8-foot French seams.

However, when I looked around for a chuppah that we both liked, I wasn't coming up with a lot. There was a very basic chuppah that neither of us liked. There were chuppot that involved having four people hold up the four corners, but that would have looked silly when we had only a dozen guests total. And there was a chuppah we both loved, but the company wanted $800 to send guys out in tuxedos to deliver it, set it up, watch over it for the duration of the ceremony, dismantle it, and return it. The one I built was under $200 for materials, we got to use it at the at-home reception as well as at the ceremony, and I sold it for $200 after the wedding.

I'm in the same boat...I can't decide to do an arch or something like Ashley D. said, flowers instead of candles (no flame allowed outside in Colorado). But I like the idea of an arch or something.

I think some drapping would look nice on the windows, especially in your colors.

Thanks, guys. I think draping something would be nice. I'll just have to make sure that our venue allows it. They are pretty picky about everything.

Ask your florist or a drapery company, or lighting co., etc. Most of them have arches, etc.

I rented an arch from my venue, however, you can buy pillars at micheals for like $23 a piece and return them the next day if you want (I considered it)
