Are artificial flowers worth it??

Private User, on March 8, 2015 at 5:45 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 26

All I need is 5 bouquets and maybe 5 boutineers. I was thinking about making them myself to save some money. I haven't priced it out completely yet, but is it actually worth it? Some of these artificial flowers are $5-$10 a piece plus you have to buy the ribbon, tape and pins... How much do real vs. fake bouquets typically cost??

We're doing real, I just love the smell of fresh flowers. My MOHs and FHs bestwomans bouquets are $40 each. Bouts are $10. Corsages are $20. I'm also using orchids and calla lilies so they are pricier than other flowers. My bouquet is about $300 lol.

Fake flowers are usually cheaper but it depends on what you want and where you go. I'm having fake flowers but I didn't DIY them I'm ordering them from Esty. I know some of the grocery stores like Kroger and Sams does real flower bouquet for a decent price.

Never hurts to get a quote or two from florists so you can accurately compare the cost of real and fake. Keep in mind for fake you need to include how long it'll take you to make for a fair comparison.

I'd visit a local florist and compare prices before making a decision. I've found a small local florist that's charging me only a little more than it would cost for me to make bouquets using artificial flowers. So, it's nice to have one less DIY project to worry about as the wedding gets nearer.

Fake are usually much cheaper, and then you can keep it forever, rather than having them wilt and die!!

Some brides have used grocery store florists for bouqets that were beautiful and super affordable.

Im doing real touch and I bought from afloral & wedideas. you do save in some aspects but real touch can be very close to the price of real flowers. some of my real touch flowers actually have flower smells in the latex or whatever, it tripped me out when I opened the first box hahah.

for me, it is worth it, I didn't have a big floral budget so I was going to diy with wholesale flowers. I also live in Arizona and will be getting married in may, its going to be hot. I looked into it online and basically my options were

    1. make them ahead a few days and try and find somewhere to keep them cool

    2. make them the day of and stress out because its a lot to do while you also need to be getting ready and relaxing

    3. use quality fakes that I would still be completely happy with the look, but not have to worry about it the day of.

I currently have all of the bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, and centerpiece flowers in my wedding room, good to go for the day of the wedding.

real touch really does look fantastically real, so Im sold!

    I love my bouquet

For comparisons sake, my florist quoted me at $100 for my bouquet and $75 for each of my BM's bouquets, $10-15 for each boutonnière

I was quoted $550 for 30 Callia Lilies and a ton of baby's breath but that was them delivering and setting up centerpieces. My bouquet, a corsage, and 2 boutonnieres are not in that total. I am having them made by a someone I found that makes flowers out of wood. I am doing the flowers for my centerpieces with real touch Callia Lilies form Hobby Lobby and the baby's breath is coming from efavormart.com. Flower total is $70. That is a huge price difference and my centerpieces are not difficult and my venue permits me to decorate the day before. If I decided to use silk hydrangeas instead of the baby's breath my total cost will be around $130. That is still a huge difference.

My artificial flowers cost about half what a florist wanted for real. However, if I had gone the route of having a local floral department at a grocery store make them (with fresh flowers)-it would have been the same cost as artificial.

Get quotes from florists and see what they can offer. ALWAYS buy fake florals on sale or with a coupon if you purchase them from Hobby Lobby, Michaels and/or ACMoore.

We considered the fake route but it was important to me to have fresh, I just prefer them and I also couldn't get the look I wanted with fake without spending a mini fortune. In the end we spent just a little over $200 more to have fresh flowers from a florist who is providing us with exactly what we want plus delivering and setting them up.

You should actually go to a florist (actually, a few) explain what you want, and price it out vs. the fake flowers. Plus don't forget the value of your time!

We are having fresh flowers. Obviously, the cost of a florist significantly varies depending on area and type of flower used but... my bridal bouquet will have 5 hydrangeas, 7-8 roses, and 8-9 delphinium blossoms with a satin-wrapped handle and pearl pins, for $69.50. My BM bouquets have 4 hydrangea, 7-8 delphinium blossoms, baby's breath, with satin-wrapped handles with pearl pins for $45/each. They're a little bigger/more expensive than they could have been because we are repurposing them as our low centerpieces at the reception. The boutonniere are roses and delphinium blossoms and are $12/each.

Thank you for all your help! I haven't gone to a florist yet but I did see some already made bouquets at AC Moore that matched my colors that were on sale for $12/each. Not too bad! You all have great ideas and have been really helpful. Thank you!

Fake flowers (silks) are generally cheaper, but the good quality ones are typically about the same cost as fresh flowers. It just depends.

    Fine Greetings, Brides!

I had an excellent quality silk floral bouquet for my own Wedding bouquet. No regrets...

Yes, some of the grocery stores have excellent floral departments. Definitely, some shopping/pricing must be done by the Bride.

One suggestion regarding the boutonnieres. You can go to a craft store and choose a very nice one-stemmed silk flower -- that already has some greenery with it -- for the Groom and Groomsmen. With the removal of their jackets, and then, putting the jackets back on -- those fresh flower boutonnieres take a beating. But the silk boutonniere will stay intact, all thru the Wedding Day.

All the best to everyone! Planning a Wedding is definitely the equivalent of taking on a 2nd full time job!

    Sincerely, Flutist Michele, Jersey Shore!
