Are centerpieces REALLY necessary?

But would you side eye a bride who didn't do anything regarding the tables?

They're nice.....but no one will remember weeks, months or years after the wedding.

Not necessary, but neither are table cloths, or any other decor. Really depends on the overall look and feel you would like for your reception. Personally I can't imagine having nothing in the middle of the table and would opt for a small vase with 1 or 2 fresh flowers.

Just depends. I think centerpieces make a table. Something other than votives and floating candles with mirrors. You could do small centerpieces since step mom wants to contribute which is so nice of her!

I think you need something , maybe something simple like candles. Is his step-mom thinking there will be floral centerpieces. You might want to check into that.

I wouldn't side eye a bride that didn't have them although I do like them. No need to go overboard with them, we only had three per row.

No nothing wrong with not having them, have just something little or different for the table number

Guests may not remember what the centerpiece consisted of (except me), but the absence of one will be very noticeable. Do a bud vase with a single rose if you can't budget for anything more significant, but please, don't make it look like a diner table with condiments only. It's a wedding.

What's your wedding theme? I am doing a fall theme so some tables will have pumpkins and others baskets of apples, with gourds and tea lights as "filler." I would see if you can find some cute fairly inexpensive options like that, that fit with your theme.

I would recommend having some kind of centerpiece. I do remember whether there is a centerpiece or not and if I thought it looked tacky. Apparently most people don't care, though. It doesn't have to be fancy. I found all sorts of ideas on Pinterest for around $5.

ETA: one option that we considered for our centerpieces was a three-tiered glass tray made from dollar tree materials. It's beautiful and then you put appetizers, cupcakes, fruit, candy or whatever on the trays that you would have served anyway.

I think it'd look so empty and weird, so to me centerpieces are necessary.

My venue provides centerpieces of small round vases filled with water, river stones and a few submerged flowers but I opted to spend extra for real floral centerpieces. I wanted it to feel a little more wedding-y than just a dinner. Some of those event spaces can really look empty and boring without centerpieces

I think without a little something it looks a bit bare and not tied into the wedding but it definitely doesn't have to involve flowers and can be done simply for sure.

Technically nothing is ncessary except a marriage license, officiant and B&G so I do think a lot of pp are reacting to the use of "necessary." I don't know what your wedding venue looks like, but here was what some of my nicer potential venues looked like without extras. Felt like a corporate event

I feel like the tables might look too naked without anything. Of course, you do you and nobody is really going to care. But that being said, centerpieces do add a lot to it. We are just doing cute bowls of chips and salsa (To go with our taco bar) surrounded by a little greenery, maybe you could do something functional like that?

I don't think it necessarily a must. But I think centerpieces add to the "wedding feel" and give an ambiance that helps set the tone of your event. For me there is no question that centerpieces help make a wedding a wedding.

I don’t remember a centerpiece from any weddings I went to and now I don’t even know if they had a centerpiece or not?? If people actually care about that then they need a life. It’s all up to you! Most people come to a wedding to drink, party, eat food and have fun! If you have an open bar, good food and good music then who cares???

It's your wedding and you can decorate however you please. I personally wouldn't care either way.

I’m sorry! That was supposed to have a photo attached, I’m on my phone so I don’t think it’ll let me attach it
