Are corsages necessary?

If you use real flowers for the bouquets, do you need to use real flowers for the boutonnieres also? What about the corsages for the mothers/grandmothers? Are those even necessary?! And what guys get boutonnieres along with the groomsmen?!

In my personal opinion, I believe that every mother, father, grandfather, and grandmother should be honored, and one of the most visible ways of doing that is giving them a corsage, a bout, a tiny bouquet, or a single stem (usually a rose). That, with an escorted walk down the aisle, honors those men and women in your family (and I've handed out those pieces -- believe me, your parents -- and especially your grandparents -- are very thankful for them). They take it very seriously.

Nothing is "necessary" however as @Centerpiece has said, corsages are traditionally used to honor important family members. Each of our moms will be given one, as will FH's grandmothers.

Thank you! I am the first in my family to get married within the past twenty years so no one really knows what the protocol is nowadays!

I've discussed it with my mom and fmil. And they both said that they would rather us just do one for the grandma's. So that's what I am doing. Kinda a know your crowd type thing. Yes, kinda rude to skip if the mother/father/grandma/grampa are hoping for one.
