Are fake flowers tacky?

Rachael, on March 30, 2015 at 9:47 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 54

I really want to do flowers in Mason jars as my centerpieces for my wedding. I refuse to get them through a florist because it's too overpriced and I am on a tight budget. My wedding is at 11:30AM, so everything has to be done the night before (or even earlier than that). My original idea was to have a family member put the flowers in jars for me the day before the wedding and drop them off at the venue. The venue told me they have no refrigerator for my flowers and that nothing can be dropped off until the day of anyway. So it looks like I'll have to do fake flowers. are fake flowers tacky for a wedding centerpiece?

If they are decent looking fake flowers the are NOT tacky. I see nothing wrong with it. Hell my bouquet is made of fake flowers and I would be doing fake flowers with my centerpieces, but I have yet to find decent looking fake baby's breath.

Personally, I am doing fake flowers in our bouquets. I'm not doing floral centerpieces BECAUSE I don't like them as centerpieces and I can't afford real ones. I guess it could be just a matter of taste. I can't stand mason jars either though. I'm fine with fake flowers as long as people can't touch them to tell they are fake.

No, tacky is an overused word and there are plenty of ways to make them look nice. I'm not sure that fake baby's breath is your best option, but there are lots of fake flowers. We ended up with fake white roses that were on sale from the dollar store for ten cents a piece!

I'm using the real touch flowers and you really can't tell a difference unless you are really inspecting them.

I personally don't like fake flowers. There are also lots of non-floral centerpieces that you can make as well Smiley smile

    I don't think they're tacky - I am using them for everything.

Another idea that is a little more cost friendly (and depending on how important it is for you to have a specific flower/color) a friend of mine is going to the farmers market/grocery store the morning of her wedding and buying an assortment of fresh flowers to put in the mason jars.

Im using fake dollarstore roses for our bouquets, because we will literally use them for 20 minutes. Less for me, because you hand your bouquet to your MOh once your up there. So basically to walk upand walk back. I am planning on real coursages for me, my 2 girls, and the mothers. Fake for the guys cuz men dont care about flowers and boutineers are so easy to make. No flowers in the ceneterpieces. Using mirrors, a candle, and some blue crytals i picked up at the dollarstore. I suppose i will put the 3 fake bouquets in a vase on the head table, but plan to give the 2 from my MOHs to the 2 young single people there in lieu of the bouquet toss. I spent a total of $10 bucks on the dollarstore roses, green tape, and ribbon. Lol suspect the 8 coursages will be under 100 bucks, from the grocerystore. Its all I can afford, so its what Im doing.

Not at all. A lot of people have allergies when it comes to real flowers.

If people get upset that they don't have real flowers in the centerpieces at your wedding, they suck.

More and more it's not in people's budgets to spend thousands of dollars on flowers. It's not tacky!

Mine look very real, but, they also weren't cheap. I went with fake because of severe allergies, including my own. I got mine at Afloral, and am thrilled with them.

If the venue is not overly hot, real fresh flowers will be fine overnight not in a refrigerator. I see your wedding is at the end of August. So, if the venue is about 70 degrees, they'll be fine.

I don't think they're tacky. I don't really like them, but if you're having a masonjar rustic wedding, 1 package of costco baby's breath is like $87, and for FCIL wedding it was MORE than enough. then you could get some roses and carnations from a grocery store. That's what FCIL did and she did all the baby's breath the night before (no refrigeration needed) and had a helper plop in a couple of roses and carnations before.

Fake flowers as a whole are not tacky. They can be tacky if they're the super cheap-looking kind (in my opinion). However, you're not stuck with only fake flowers. There are TONS of flowers that you could get that will last without refrigeration. With your rustic theme, a lot of these would work out really well and will actually be very cheap too:

    Sunflowers (and/or mini sunflowers)

    Solidago

    Limonium/Caspia

    September weed

Pomps (any variety of pomps: daisy, button, fuji)

    Fuji mums

    Asters

    Baby's breath (aka gypsophilia)

    Liatris

    Alstromeria

Most of those are going to be pretty inexpensive and are all very long-lasting flowers. Look into buying in bulk if you can.
