Are limos overrated ?

Dij, on June 25, 2016 at 10:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 21

I was having a conversation with some of my co-workers. Some of them think that having a limo for a wedding is overrated or uncalled for. However I thought it would be distasteful to not have one. What do you think WW?

A limo is a must at my wedding. I don't think it's overrated or uncalled for at all. I have never been to a wedding where there wasn't a limo or at least a fancy car for transportation.

Meh, I'm not a fan, I'd rather ride in a restored 36 Buick.

To each their own, I've never thought it was outdated though.

I don't think it's necessary. It's an extra cost that's up to personal preference.

We're having a hummer limo because I wanted a limo to take us to the photo location between ceremony and reception (which are at the same place). The hummer part is because FH really really really really wanted the hummer :p we did it because I didn't know how else to 'classishly' (is that a word? I'm making it a word) get the bridal party to the photo location. I'm also having our photographer ride in the limo with us because I thought limo photos would be badass. If you don't like them or if they aren't in your budget though, I don't think they're necessary.

Not necessary at all. Overrated? Not really but not necessary at all.

No reason to have everything fancy or nice. It's just transportation for a few select individuals.

    Necessary? No. Overrated? Just depends.

For example, my wedding and reception are in the same place. And I will even be getting ready there. There is just no reason for a limo. It would be overrated and kind of ridiculous in my case.

But if you're getting ready with a bridal party elsewhere, then need transport to the venue(s), then it seems totally reasonable and nice to provide to your BP, so they aren't worried about getting themselves there or driving in fancy attire.

Definitely not distasteful. Definitely not uncalled for. Definitely not a necessity. Its entirely up to you.

I probably wouldn't have opted to pay for a limo as it wasnt' that important to me. My FIL sprung for one to bring guests back and forth from the hotel to our venue, followed by the bridal party, with me and my bridesmaids riding in it last. It was so fun! I loved being in there with all my girls.

Is it the end all be all? No. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Would I have budgeted it for myself? Probably not, but I really appreciate it and it was so kind of my FIL to book it.

I don't think limos are overrated. I personally don't want one for my wedding. I'm in the process of finding a trolley.

We had a coach bus. It was cheaper than a limo. There was no way I could have gotten into a limo in my gown.

Haha @sarahmarie It was hard in my gown!!! One of my bridesmaids kept saying "Like getting a creampuff through a keyhole!" Or something like that. Line from Sex and the City hahah

I haven't seen a limo used at a wedding, since 2010. Maybe it was a regional thing - we don't use them up here. Comparing that wedding to mine (with no limos), we offered more food to our guests, during our cocktail hour, than the limo bride did at her entire reception. Personal preferences? regional differences in hosting? allocating the budget differently? ... who knows?

Totally personal choice. I could not care less. Just so not my thing, it feels like prom to me. But as you can see some people care. Up to you.

PS.. I took a limo TO the wedding and hopped in an Uber back to the hotel for the after-party at the end of the wedding Lol My dad, my groom, me, and one of the bridesmaids grabbed the Uber. It was fun!

I don't think it's necessary but I also don't think it's overrated. For us personally we aren't having one. Everything is at 1 location and we don't have a ton of travel. The limo companies near me want you to rent it for 4 hours minimum and it costs over $700. If I could rent it for 1 hour for a quarter of the price, then sure I'd have one for our arrival. I just think you have to make a personal choice of whether or not the service is worth it to you.

I wouldn't say they are uncalled for. I suppose it depends on where you live, but around here I think they have definitely lost their "wow" factor. People take out party buses and limos for regular nights out, and some of the bars provide them free of charge. Our ceremony and reception are in the same location, but I think we will get one of those mega party buses to transport people if we have an after party.

OP it's your wedding. If you want one, I say go for it.

Personal choice. I'm not having one because everything is at one location.

My stepdad will take all bridesmaids to the venue in the morning to get ready.

We did get a coach to take guests to and from the hotel. The wedding party will take that at the end of the night so they can get as shitty as they want at the reception. Lol

I was about to post that I didn't have a limo, but remembered that we decided to use one ONLY because most of our wedding party was OOT and would need transportation anyway. That being said, if even I didn't remember the transportation to/from the ceremony, I'm sure nobody did.

Best of luck with whatever you decide on!

For me they are overrated but you do what works for you! Transportation requirements are very different for each wedding. I couldn't justify spending money on a limo for a two block ride. That is just me, though!
