Are mason jars overdone?

I've always loved the idea of a vintage/rustic wedding, even before EVERYONE started doing it. I collect mason jars, in fact, I have too many. I've always loved the idea of a vintage/rustic wedding, even before EVERYONE started doing it. I collect mason jars, in fact, I have too many. I've always wanted mason jars as centerpieces, but in the short time I've actually been planning my wedding I've seen so many websites and even non-wedding related media (Tosh.O!) making fun of "another mason jar wedding." I really wanted to be "unique," but now I feel like what I always thought was unique is way overdone. I'm 34, most of my friends are married and not a mason jar was seen at their weddings, so I still feel like I'm ok but what are your thoughts on this? Anyone using mason jars or doing anything different with the same vintagesque feel? I was thinking about antique vases or wooden soap boxes, but I every time I see a mason jar I drool

Reality is, wedding goers don't know the trendy wedding styles. We do, because we pour over wedding sites and Pinterest. Your wedding will be lovely and all yours!

That's a really good point Karen. We are not a normal audience.

To answer your question, YES! But most people don't attend many weddings or parties, so it is completely up to you and your guests.

Thanks everyone! I may just stick to the plan and not worry about it. It really is my vision so I may just go with it. Unrelated, @Rebecca is that your 4-legged baby in your profile pic? I have a shiba baby too!

I think a lot of people are saying the same thing. Yes they're used a lot but think back to the wedding you have attended.... Have you seen a ton of mason jars? We're using them instead of votives.... I think there are a lot of things in wedding that could be argued as "over done" but it's all to personal taste. If you like them use them.

Don't even worry about everyone else thinks. do what YOU want and what you like. i think it's sad that people have turned it into such a negative thing. if it's not your taste... fine, but it doesn't mean you have to knock it for everyone else that likes them.

we are using mason jars as our drinking glasses.

Who cares, if its something you've wanted to do, go for it! Im doing mason jars as center pieces also- i got them from my best friend, his grandmother did canning years ago and he had so many, they are awesome because they are different than the ones you buy in the stores now.

Yes, but like others have said, who cares. Anything that people are doing that are not mason jars may become something that's overdone in the future too. My only thing is, is that now that people have caught on to the mason jar trend, prices have become ridiculous for them so do some major research before buying them in bulk for the best prices! Or a lot of people resell them on swap sites and craigslist for cheap.

And while they may be "overdone" I don't think anybody is going to go to a wedding, wrinkle their nose and say something like, "Oh mason jars? Soooo overdone," like we might think. People will think they are cute and not care if they've been to another wedding that had them!

I feel the exact same way as you! My friends and I are also older and most are already married. Their weddings were all pretty formal and traditional, not a mason jar in sight. My dream has always been a vintage casual wedding and I have been canning and using mason jars for years, before they were popular. My only anxiety about it is the fact that our wedding is still 15 months away and we will going to a few of my fiance's younger friends' weddings this summer. I am positive that at least 2 of those weddings will include a lot of the themes I want to use, and I don't want those brides to think I am copying them. But I'm still planning to use mason jars and wine bottles for decorations and centerpieces. I just love it and know I shouldn't care what others think. Do what you love!

Im doing the whole rustic thing and i just dgaf if people here thinks it's overdone. Lol - I have not been to a wedding where it's been done and didn't realize it was so overdone until I came on WW... So If that's your style go with it! Don't let other people influence your tastes

IDGAF if they are overdone, I'm still incorporating them. I guess for me it's kind of personalized because there's a brand of mason jars that is my last name.

I think it's only being able to be described/recognised as "overdone" because of pinterest and the ease of internet access. I think do them if you like them, FCIL had a mason jar rustic wedding and it was very nice.

If there was pinterest in the early 2000's periwinkle and baby yellow and wicker would have been "overdone" along with those spiky spice girl updos

Lia, I wish I had a shiba! I needed to put up a real profile pic and happened to have this one saved on my work comp. Have you seen the Doge memes? FH and I love them for some reason.

Well the rustic theme comes free with the all inclusive package at the venue we've been eyeballing. complete with burlap, lanterns, wood, mason jars etc. so i'd rather save potentially hundreds of dollars and just reuse their stuff and add personal touches.

if you want to save money and you have the things and like the theme, don't let anyone stop you.

Mason jars are going to be our favors. for the people 14+

if they are younger than 10 and a boy they'll get a superhero cup

if they are a girl frozen cup, it doesnt go with the theme but hey frozen is a big thing and boys love superheros

@Jess B... maybe have a little of each for choice too? I know as an under 10 girl I would have killed for an iron man or batman cup lol

Rebecca, I have seen them and they are hilarious. I actually hadn't heard of it and then I posted this picture of my dog on FB and someone commented, "You have a Dogememe dog!" so I had to look it up. They are too funny.

It doesn't matter what anyone else is doing, you do exactly what you desire. I have never seen them in person, but I like seeing them and how brides put their individual twist on them. I am doing a rustic romantic feel as well, but not using mason jars (thought about it though). Smiley smile

I am planning a rustic chic wedding as well, and I love the idea of mason jars! I think the key is using them in moderation though. So maybe pick one way you will incorporate them (such as holding flowers on the table, or the way desserts are presented) and don't overdo it.
