Are polyester cloth napkins Ok, or is there something wrong with them?

GoodMOB, on January 6, 2018 at 2:27 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7

And what materials are best?

I'm looking at linentablecloth.com, and the polyester napkins are extremely affordable to buy. Less expensive than renting from our caterer.

Those of you who have been through the cloth napkin thing, what do you recommend?

Some people turn their nose up at polyester anything, but those aren't the people whose opinions should matter.

Linen and cotton are more absorbent, but polyester napkins are very common. I prefer them to satin, for sure.

Buying napkins often saves a lot of money over renting and they don't have the same issues as ironing and storing tablecloths. Even if you just wash them following the wedding, and give them away, you have still spent less than renting.

Can you order a sample to see if you like them?

You are way overthinking this. They're napkins. If guests turn their noses up at the fabric used, you have bigger fish to fry.

I just went and picked out my napkins and went with a linen because I touched the polyester and it didn't feel right to me for wiping my hands/mouth with. I don't think they look bad, but I think the texture and actually feeling them can be different. Just a matter of preference Smiley smile

They're OK. I bought napkins at one of the discount sites. So cheap! My only issue is that the gold colour I chose was more tan than anything else but I don't plan to replace them.

I purchased mine from linentablecloth and they were polyester. We didn't see anything wrong with them. They were nice for the price.

I'm looking at tablelinensforless.com and they have polyester as well as poly/cotton blend napkins in various colors for a good price. We're planning to rent some of our dinner napkins in white and then buy napkins in a few different colors so we have a nice mix. I would prefer to buy simply because then we will have cloth napkins for the house, as we currently don't have any. Linen and cotton napkins feel nicer and are more absorbent, but they stain much more easily and need to be ironed. For this reason I'd prefer to go with the polyester, even though I usually avoid synthetic fibers. Polyester just seems like a more durable and practical choice. I'm not sure, though, about the poly-cotton blends. Anyone know what to expect from those in terms of staining, wrinkling, and absorption?
