Are the "fund" sites worth it?

Justine, on July 28, 2018 at 9:59 PM Posted in Registry 0 7
We have a very small registry at BB&B. The polite implication being that we want money. I know most of those honey/house fund sites charge a percentage, which I didn't like Then my sister in law scared me when she said people are going to just get whatever off registry. I brought the idea of having something on the website about how we are trying to buy a house. She thought it was tacky. My cousin just got married and they had a honey fund through The Knot, and all of a sidden, it's not tacky anymore. Any advice? Is it just easier to do it online?

I dont like them because they take a percentage of your money. You could just completely get rid of the registry and then if people want to give you money they will.

Some people will only give physical gifts no matter what. You can't change these people. Having a small registry will help guide them. Every one of the cash sites will charge you. It's the only way they can make money. You are paying them to collect money from you family and deposit it in your bank. That's all they do. If someone writes you a check, it's free.

I’ve been told that you can give gifts of $$ using PayPal without being charged but have no clue how to do it or if it is actually true.

Why are people so anti cash or check? I can hand you cash with no fee. Right inside your card. Like people have done for decades.

I have no idea why people on this site seem to get their panties in a twist over these things. Honestly if someone wants to gift you $$$ then they will. And if they want to gift you an item they will, either from the registry or otherwise. I wouldn’t worry about a $$ find site if it’s to much work and stressful.

We went through Zola, straight cash fund. His mom said it was tacky but I don't care, she didn't pay for her own wedding, isn't paying for ours, we are. They do charge a fee. Only one person (out of 60) that's rsvp'd has gifted us though so... not sure if people are offended or are waiting until closer to the wedding or they're just going to bring cash/checks since we've made it very clear we only want money. *Shrugs*

Our wedding is 30 people. My FH'z daughter said we HAD to have something, so went on Honeyfund/Target. I got a lot of slack for my choice, but do what you want! Good luck...
