Are veils going out of style?

Last night I was looking for veil inspirations so I was scrolling through some wedding venues instagrams. I was surprised that about 80% of the brides weren't wearing a veil. Are veils becoming less and less popular?

I think veils are beautiful, but since our ceremony is on the beach, I'm afraid I'd be constantly battling the wind. I wouldn't say they're going out of style at all, but I think the option to not wear one is just as accepted.

I'm on team no veil. That's not to say they're going out of style. Many brides will wear one for the ceremony and then take it off for the reception. They put a veil on me with the dress I picked out but I could already tell that it would get on my nerves and I'd be fidgeting with it a lot.

They cycle in and out of fashion. When dresses have plain backs, veils are more popular. With fancy backs (or no backs at all), veils are less popular. Also depends on hairstyles -- some look better w/o a veil.

Most of my beach weddings do not have veils (or trains).

It was really breezy at my Sat. morning beach wedding, so it was a good thing the bride did not wear a veil. She wore a short white dress that was perfect for a casual beach wedding.

I'm wearing one and I totally love It! However, after pictures and the ceremony it will be coming off, don't want it to get ruined during the reception

I'm wearing one. My dress is sort of Elizabethan in style and the veil really played that up...I also really like the extra bit of coverage the veil adds to my back and shoulders. I literally NEVER wear anything that shows my shoulders or back (habit from before my breast reduction). The veil helps me feel a little less naked.

I bought one and stayed on the fence about wearing it until right before the ceremony (I finally put it on about 90 seconds before doing a first look with my dad). Once it was on, though, it stayed on until the end of the reception! Granted, I wore an elbow-length sheer veil, so it didn't really get in my way while dancing or anything. I definitely surprised myself, though.

It also depends on if you were looking at ceremony or reception photos, lots of brides take the veil off for the reception

I am not wearing a veil. I've been to lots of weddings with and without. Guess it all depends on your taste....

I was considering not wearing a veil. That lasted until I tried a veil for the first time, love them!

I originally was set on no veil. Then I tried some on and all I could think about was veil. I thought I would only wear mine for the ceremony, but I never wanted to take it off. I'm #TeamVeil for sure Smiley smile

I think it has become more of an option to wear one. I am going with one myself but it is completely up to you with what you choose.

I'm wearing a veil, and it clips to my hair piece so I can remove the veil for the reception, but keep the hairpiece.

I'm ambivalent about veils - but FH is pretty against them, because of the history of how they came about. You know, they'd cover the face of the woman until they got to the altar, so that the groom didn't have time to change his mind. From the days of arranged marriages where fathers would make a transaction with another man and effectively sell his daughter. So his perspective is that A) I'm not a piece of property and B) he already knows what I look like. Lol.

I do think they're pretty, but I also have an intricate back I want to show off and my hairstyle won't really go well with a veil. So I wouldn't do it anyway.

I love my veil and it was never even a question for me. I am only wearing it for the ceremony. It makes me feel so bridal. I have been to a couple weddings recently where the bride went without a veil. The looked beautiful either way.

I'm not wearing one, it's just not me and I love the back of my dress. Most of my friends who were married before me didn't wear one either, but I still see it from time to time. It's personal preference.

Hmmm I can't find any veil-specific data from WeddingWire, but I definitely don't think they're going out of style! I just think that most brides take the veil off for the reception so that they are free to dance and move around Smiley smile

If 70% of brides are still wearing something old, new, borrowed, and blue - then I'd guess that an even higher percentage are still wearing a veil at some point in the day!
