Are wedding invites really necessary if we send out our wedding website info with the save the dates?

We're using the wedding website to have people RSVP. We think it'll be easier all around to do it that way. I was thinking we'd stick cute little note cards in with the save the dates explaining our website along with the address/password. The only thing is because FH's family lives across the country we're going to have to send out our save the dates about 10 months to a year in advance.. Because let's face it, in this economy it's not easy to save up money for family plane tickets/hotel costs. And the earlier you book them the cheaper they are (we found that out the hard way). I was thinking instead of spending money on formal invites since we're pretty much going all out on our save the dates, maybe we could just send out little reminders in a simple greeting card form.. I find it to be a complete waist of money when every bit of information will be on our website. I'm not trying to cut corners, like I said it just seems like a waist to me. What do you ladies think?

I'd use vista print and do some cheap ones... It won't be that expensive honest.

I'd forget without an invite on my fridge that and I like to have one for my scrapbook stuff
