Are you a two dress bride?

Courtney, on December 10, 2011 at 12:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

When I first heard of brides having a dress for the wedding and then buying a seperate dress for their reception, I thought they were crazy! Who would want to spend all that money on a dress and not wear it the entire night??

But.....

Now that we are wanting to use sparklers for our exit, I am considering another dress for the reception. I just don't want to get little tiny burn marks all over my dress, which I hear happens quite often with sparklers. I'm actually thinking about wearing my gorgeous white dress for the ceremony and then wearing one of my wedding colors for the reception...obviously a much cheaper dress.

Are you guys having two dresses? or maybe even three?? Or are you just sticking to the one dress that you spent all that money on?

I was thinking about having 2 dress for the wedding and the reception but i love my wedding dress so much that i dont want to change into anything else. Also for the amount of money i am spending to wear my dress i feel that i should wear it more then just for the ceremony....

No, one reason being that wedding dresses - even in cheaper versions - are still very expensive. Another thing is that getting in and out of dresses takes time. I didn't want to miss a minute of having fun on a day that goes by incredibly fast. So to me it would have been both the waste of time and money.

I wanted to get as much time out of my dress as I could so I only wore one dress.

I have two wedding dresses! I bought the Vera Wang dress thinking it that was the one. Then I tried on a Maggie Sottero dress and I knew that was the one! My FH thought I was crazy buying two huge wedding dresses but I loved them both so much! So I've got to wear them both!

I might… I'm thinking about doing cocktail hour first, then ceremony, then dinner. It makes sense for our group and the venue. SO, I might get an inexpensive knee length dress for cocktail hour (yes, I plan on attending before the ceremony… i'm not about to miss out on the hors d'oeuvres or sangria) and then change into the gown for the ceremony & reception. I figure I'll be able to wear the first dress again so I can rationalize the purchase.

Nope, between the ceremony and the reception everything will be about 6 hours and I want to wear my dress the whole time.

I have two dresses... one for the ceremony through dessert, then I change into the short dress for dancing. I knew I wanted two dresses because I hate the way lace gowns look when they're bustled.

No way! I love my dress. I would wear that sucker around the house if I could!

I might have a backup white cocktail dress at the venue, only b/c our reception goes really late, and I want to be covered in case my dress gets a gimongous stain, or becomes very heavy/uncomfortable, or if my bustle rips. But I'll only change into it in case of emergency. Smiley smile

I only did one dress, not because of money being an issue but because I loved my dress and I wanted to spend as much time in it as possible. If I could have worn it the next day leaving the hotel I would have!! If you want a second one then I say go for it, but I would still have the second dress be white, so that you will stand out and still look "brideish" (I made that word up).

And we did sparklers on our exit too and I didn't have any burn marks in my dress.

I'm thinking about it for once the party really gets started and b/c we want to go out in Las Vegas when the reception is over. It's going to be white though and as close to $50 as I can make it Smiley smile

I am a one dress girl just because I absolutely love my dress I do understand why ppl have two dresses I mean you get to dance a little better, and all that, but keep in mind 1. everyone wants pictures with you and they probably would rather you have your dress on and 2. you want to stand out in your wedding. changing into a shorter dress you kinda blend in. Also, if you are going with two dresses make sure the second one isnt tacky. I went to a wedding where the bride changed into a very unflattering dress (sorry but it was) and everyone kept commenting on it behind her back and the only reason she stood out was bc the dress was not cute at all... :/

But most importantly, do what you feel most happy pretty and comfortable with

    Good LUCK!!

I agree with you getting a dress for the reception because of the sparklers, but I would stay in white. You are suppose to stand out as the bride. Plus it's hard to find the bride if she's not in white. lol

I'm having two dresses. Getting married on the beach and a formal reception. Can't imagine a ball gown in the sand.

I just have one, but it's short so it'll be easy to dance the night away in!

No way would I have a reception dress! I'm so in love with my gown that I want to wear it all day, every day! I only get to wear a fancy, beautiful, white dress for one day in my entire life, so I am going to wear it for as long as possible. I bought a dress that I would feel comfortable dancing in, eating in, walking down the aisle in, etc. Not to mention that there's no room in my budget for ANOTHER dress! I will be bustling the train and changing my headpiece, just so I have a somewhat different look (and more comfortable) at the reception. My friend got married in August and used sparklers and she didn't have any problems, but her MOH was really good about telling the guests how to hold them so that they wouldn't have anything go wrong.

Lol....its so funny how everyone has so many different opinions on the two dresses. I'm telling you guys, I thought it was nuts to have two dresses, but you never know what you will end up doing. Its good to know that some people didn't have issues with the sparklers and their dress. It kinda makes me want to rethink my decision Smiley smile But I've heard a lot of stories about singe marks too and I LOVE my dress too much for that!
