Are you buying the photographer's wedding album?

Melissa, on November 10, 2011 at 10:54 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 33

I have a 10K budget and am trying to find ways to cut corners without compromising the integrity/vision of my wedding. I am also extremely creative and crafty. So I'm thinking of creating my own wedding album instead of buying it from the photographer.

What do you think? Does anyone have experience with this?

I was thinking the same thing. There are so many different tools online that you can do this. They also send out coupons. So I suggest signing up for shutterfly and some of the others.

You could always make an album yourself on shutterfly. They are a lot cheaper and they always have coupons!

I brought my Photog book, it came with the package, but shutterfly is awesome.

Our photography package included 1 album which we are going to keep. I created albums on shutterfly for the parents and grandparents and they turned out pretty well. As mentioned shutterfly always has coupons.

Does your photographer give you the full sized images with printing rights? If so, I'd suggest making your own. Also...on TheWeddingChannel.com, currently, if you review 5+ vendors you get a free 8x8 20 page album from ShutterFly (priced at $30) and trust me, it works...I got my promo code for it literally the day after I reviewed. On WW they have a similar promo, but it takes 30 days I believe to get that code.

Our wedding package included a nice leather wedding album...but we also get the pictures and printing rights...so I'll be making additional albums for parents on ShutterFly.

Our package includes an album of our E-pics, so that's the only album we are getting.

Nope, I'm just purchasing the rights to the images and eventually doing my own album.

I think if you're creative/crafy, go for it! I can be sometimes, but I don't have the time to spend on something like my wedding. But I also wanted a professional album that will still be in good shape for our grandkids to see. Our package included the album. We're getting the DVD of our pictures so I'll be making our parent albums on Shutterfly or some photo book website.

TY for the promo code tip Cydney! Hope it's still around when I get mine done in a month or so! Smiley smile

We're actually making our own photo album... since I'm a photographer I can order a pro album for a fraction of the price that my photog is charging for it Smiley smile

We purchased the rights to the images. I purchased a beautiful album from Things Remembered and we printed all the ones we wanted to go in the book...it's priceless. I also did a scrapbook, which was so much fun. It captured so many wonderful moments of the day and the events leading up to it.

I've gotten photobooks for other events - some are nice. Here is a nice comparison of the popular ones:

Nope. I'm trying to find a photographer who doesn't include all of these things. We don't "need" them nor want them and I refuse to be forced into purchasing extra crap.

No, we have rights to all the pics that they'll be taking and I'm planning on making my own album.

You certainly can and it will be cheaper. However, it won't have the same quality as the one your photographer could do.

If you really want a HOPE of recreating the quality level of a photographer's book, I would go with mypublisher and pay extra for the lay flat pages and the superglossy pages. I've ordered several photobooks from both my publisher and shutterfly and also got a wedding album from my photographer and doing what I recommended above is the only one that is truly an equal to the level of the photographer's album.

We are going with the photographers one. It also includes two additional smaller albums, which we'll be giving one to each set of parents. I am not crafty, artsy or anything like that, so for me to create albums would not be good.

But if you have the skills and time, then go for it. I've seen some of the ones created from Shutterfly and the are very nice.

We are getting one album with our package, but we are also getting the rights to the photos so if we want to make them for our parents we can.

Making your own albums can save you money & cost you money. Pro photographers have their monitors calibrated for the pro lab they use for prints & albums. It guarantees that the colors and exposure will print true. This will not be the case if you print your prints or your album somewhere else. You might not notice unless you were to compare to a pro lab. I did an experiment with my lab, Shutterfly, Wal-Mart, CVS, & Walgreen's. Not one of those places printed my photo with correct color or exposure. The details in the bride's dress were lost because the photo was overexposed by the cheaper labs. Her skin was orange. In the print from my pro lab, this was not the case...skin tones & details were perfect...because my monitor is calibrated to the colors of their printing machine. You could run the risk of printing an album & having the colors look not quite right. It's food for thought that most folks don't realize.

We'll be making our own, unless a family member is kind enough to gift it for us! Smiley smile

If you choose to go the DIY route with the album, make sure you have printing rights!!
