Are you ditching parent dances?

Kelly, on January 15, 2019 at 11:05 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 125

Are you doing the traditional father-daughter and mother-son dances at your wedding reception? Or are you trimming down the total number of reception traditions and cutting the parent dances?

Are you saying "I do" to this tradition or ditching it?

Thank you, next (tradition): Are you ditching the bouquet toss?

Back to the beginning: Which wedding traditions are you ditching?

Its funny this one got asked. My mom just text me this morning saying we should do a fun mother daughter dance too in addition to the daddy daughter and mother son!

We are keeping this tradition! My only dilemma is I have 3 important father figures: dad, step dad, and brother. I am giving my dad the father daughter dance, but wish I could give all three of them a dance, but don't want to over do the dances. So for now, it will just be me and my dad doing the father daughter dance, and FH and FMIL doing the mother son dance.

    He danced with his mother.

I did not dance with anyone. I wouldn't not have even if I had parents.

We are planning to do this because it means a lot to our parents. FH has been joking with my mom that our parent dance will just be all the parents dancing alone to a song of our choosing instead of us dancing with them. My mom is very not into that idea 😂

Yes my family has never been touchy feely or huggers so I would feel super awkward

Mine will be untraditional as I'll be dancing with my grandpa. My dad was never in my life and I grew up in the same house as my grandparents. My grandpa was pretty much my dad growing up, and he's probably my best friend! I think my FH will be dancing with his step-mom as far as I know. His mom passed away from cancer when he was 15.

I will be doing a father daughter dance but FH doesn't want to do a mother son dance because he isn't particularly close to his mom or his step mom

We're keeping this tradition. Fh is still trying to figure out what song he wants to dance with his mom to.

We are keeping this tradition! My dad isn't much of a "dancer" and requested that I pick a slowish song. I think I'm going with Celine Dione's "because you loved me". She originally wrote it for her husband who passed away, but it's such a beautiful song and what she's saying applies to how I feel about my father. My FH will be picking a song for him and his mom to dance to as well. We love this tradition Smiley smile

I plan on dancing with my dad. My fiancé's mother passed away a long time ago but he's thinking of asking my mom to dance with him since he calls her 'mom' anyway.

I’m walking down the aisle myself (I’m older and feel like no one can give me away. I’m not as close to my dad ) FH is doing a mother daughter dance, I’m doing a bouquet toss, he’s not doing a garter toss . We aren’t doing a unity dedication of any kind. All that to say, we kept the traditions that made sense for us for OUR wedding and said Audios to the ones that didn’t

Both of us have been married before and my dad is no longer with us so we are ditching it. My first wedding I danced a song with my brother and then one with my mom. This time we are cutting out all dances except for ours. Just want to have fun and dance with our family and friends.

I am undecided! I love the idea, but am struggling with deciding to dance with my dad, step-dad, or both! Also, do I have to choose 2 different songs? Dance the whole song or just half? So many questions!!
