Are you doing or ditching the “carry over the threshold” tradition?

Have you and your significant other decided to follow the “carry over the threshold” tradition? This old wedding night tradition was another way to ward off evil spirits, apparently brides were extra vulnerable through the soles of their feet! Are you saying “I do” to this tradition or ditching it?...

Like many, we haven't talked about it but we will probably skip it. I'm cool either way

I'm surprised that many have skipped it! It's something you see on movies or tv so I always assumed this is what most couples did on their wedding night!

We did not even consider doing this. Smiley xd I weigh more than my husband does and he broke his collarbone several years ago and it never healed correctly - sounds more like a trip to the emergency room than fun.

We haven’t thought about this one yet, but I’m going to bring it up to my FH. I think he’d be into doing this as we went to our hotel room and when we come back home after the honeymoon!

My understanding of the origin of this tradition is twofold an ancient Norse culture the best man helped carry away unwilling bride so you carry them over the threshold family's home to yours and then consummated the marriage and turned over a garter is proof which is also the origin of a garter tradition the second origin that I have heard is that all doorways and windows are in between places relating to Fairies and changelings in British culture

you carry the bride over the threshold to protect her from being stolen or changed or corrupted

Well he is 6'3" and 200 to my under 5 feet and under 90 pounds of nothingness so it physically possible

    I haven't and won't ask

Guess? He will be his usual special self and As we both know fairy version he'll probably do all doors lol

Maybe. Just for fun. We’ll see. I don’t think either of us care too much either way.

We probably will be most likely ditching this tradition. We are both very clumsy lol

We're ditching it. He'd probably throw his back out trying. He has joked about putting his hands on my waste while I "hop" over the threshold. We're not big on traditions anyway. Smiley smile

This is probably something we'd do to be funny, I think it's cute! But we probably won't remember it by the time we're all done, haha.
