Are you doing your own wedding makeup?

Ashley , on March 6, 2019 at 1:13 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 37

I'm considering doing my own since I'm wanting something fairly basic.

How many of you are doing your own makeup and how many of you are hiring a professional?? Let me know why! I'm still on the fence and am trying to weigh out the options.

Thank you!

I'm not a big makeup wearer nor do I trust my skills enough to have a good looking bridal look so I'm hiring someone.

I'm hiring a professional! First off, I'm not very experienced with makeup so I wouldn't trust myself to have me looking perfect on the day of. Secondly, I know it's going to be a long day so I want to sit back and be pampered in the morning Smiley smile

I am hiring a professional, because I am no good with make up, lol. However, if you can do make up well, then you could totally DIY.

I am also thinking about doing my own because #1 I don't wear much makeup and don't want to look like a different person and #2 don't want to pay someone $100 to do the "light" makeup I would want. I'm going to start doing trials myself and see how comfortable I get with it before I reach out to a makeup artist.

That's actually a good point I didn't really think about! I tend to take on too much and now I'm wondering if I'll screw up my makeup if I'm all stressed out & panicky... might be smart to just hire someone to take some weight off of my shoulders!

I think I'll try it before contacting someone too! Might as well give it a go before making a decision. I really don't want to look like a different person either, especially since I don't wear much makeup on a day to day basis.... my fiance might think he's marrying someone else if he saw me walking down the aisle with a bunch of contouring and heavy eyeshadow. Hahaha yessss. I mean, contouring is awesome but I want to be authentic haha. Plus, having someone else do my makeup isn't relaxing to me at all.

Yeah!! I guess it would be relaxing in the sense that there isn't pressure on me to do my own makeup & not screw it up... but I think I'd still be stressed out and uncomfortable having someone poking at my face haha. It might be better for me to just attempt my own!

Hey, it doesn't cost you anything to try it! And you still have plenty of time to book someone if you need it.

I'm hiring a professional. I don't do my makeup often. I'm happy with it when I do, but I know it isn't anywhere close to professional. Plus I'm pretty picky & can't apply lashes myself, so I know a professional can do a much better and longer lasting job than me!

I’m hiring a professional. I do wear makeup often and am good at it, I just figured on my wedding day I want to feel pampered and make sure I look my absolute best! I don’t want to have to worry about anything the day of.

I was going to but decided against it. I do not wear makeup every day. In fact before wedding planning started, I hadn't worn makeup in over a year. When did wear makeup it was drug store liquid foundation applied with my hands and mascara. After getting ridiculously expensive quotes, I decided just to do it myself. I started major research into the best of each piece of makeup. I ended up spending over $2,000 to get fully stocked including tools and cleansers/moisturizers etc. I have immensely improved my skin condition and gotten pretty dang good (if I must say so myself lol) at applying everything (including eye brows!!) except eye shadow and I am only okay at eye liner. I realized I was going to end up having a panic attack if I couldn't get my eyes right the day of. After venting to my friend/bm about this she suggested out mutual hair lady could do it. I had never thought to ask my hair stylist. as it turns out every lady in the salon also did makeup and could even come to our hotel/venue to do it for us that morning. I can not believe how inexpensive they are too! Best deal I have found through this entire process!!

WOW I did not realise that would be so long! Sorry!

TLDR: if you want an affordable professional ask your hair stylist if she does makeup to

I hired a professional. I considered doing it myself, as it wasn’t an expense I cared about, but then I realized I would have to buy all new make up products (needed good long wear, sweat proof stuff, setting spray, photographer flash friendly foundation), and wouldn’t actually be saving any money – so went for the pro!

I am doing my own. I will take some money from the budget to get some good quality makeup(that I get to keep) and I will be sure to have my makeup look exactly how I would like it.

That's a good point! I probably would need to buy a lot of new stuff in order to get the job done right!

Money was one of the biggest reasons I was thinking of just doing it myself! I just asked around to a couple of friends (one of whom is a hairstylist) and she said she could do it for $35, which is way less than I was thinking it would be. I didn't even think about how I would need to buy proper foundation that won't look greasy in photos and all that. I'm sure it would add up way quicker than I'm assuming it would haha. Might be wise to just hire my friend.

Professional!! For so many reasons. I suck at makeup first of all. And stressing about getting it right on my wedding day would be terrible. Plus I'd spend more on buying new stuff that I'd hardly ever use again than just having someone do it.
