Are you having music in the background during your ceremony?

Mrs. J, on September 11, 2018 at 2:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

If so, what type of music?

Our officiant will provide a microphone for us...I'm not sure if we should have music as well since it's an outdoor ceremony and I want everyone to hear okay. Still debating. Thanks Smiley smile

The music wouldn't play while people are speaking so I don't think this should be a concern. But yes, we had a cellist/violinist duo as well as the church pianist. They played music for the prelude, processional and bridal march, the ring blessing (our wedding bands were passed around the audience for them to bless), the reverse unity candle ceremony, and the recessional.

We did not provide any music when the ceremony began and the officiant started to speak. Only during the processional and recessional. We did have a guitarist play as people were seated. I've never seen music continuously played during a ceremony. If you have a special song you want playing during a unity ceremony or something that might be okay but I don't think you need continuous music. You want people focusing on what the officiant is saying and on you and your FH

That's what I was thinking! We would have it during processional and recessional but I honestly didn't know if it was the norm to have light music playing as well. I, too, thought that would be distracting. I'm coming up with all the "what am I forgetting?" questions now.

    Thank you!

I'm in the same boat as you regarding the "What am I forgetting" thing lol.

I just went back on all my checklists and made sure that everything I checked off before is actually done for real and didn't accidentally check it off.

We are playing instrumental music in the background (very quietly).

No problem. I think having music when the guests are being seated, the processional, and recessional is normal and exactly what's needed!

I'm not having music During the ceremony. There will be the prelude, processional, and recessional music only.

No, before while people are seating & waiting for the ceremony we will have some background music. Then walking down the aisle music, then music when we kiss & the ceremony is over!

The only time we had background music during the ceremony was during the signing of the ketubah (formal Jewish marriage contract). Since we had all the attendees sign as witnesses, this took a bit of time, so we had music then. Otherwise, you really don't want it interfering with people hearing the ceremony.

I know people do this different ways, but I am a wedding violinist and I think it would be very distracting. I already play during the unity ceremony sometimes and it’s distracting.

We're having a Cellist play music for guests before the ceremony and then play us out after we're pronounced husband & wife, but definitely no music during the ceremony. Ours is also outside, so we want to make sure everyone can hear the words being exchanged Smiley smile

We will be having a pianist or a cellist (depends on cost and which is easier to find in this area haha) play during the processional and recessional! No music during the ceremony itself though as I'd worry that it'd overpower everyone's voices!

Definitely no background music! It’s often hard enough to hear outside, you don’t want competing sounds stealing the focus during your vows Smiley smile

We are not having background music during the ceremony. Cocktail hour and dinner, of course.
