Are you serving shots at your wedding?

AG13, on August 26, 2015 at 3:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 41

I am thinking about buying 3 of the huge bottles of fire ball (really popular in my crowd). Are shots popular in weddings? I have NEVER been to a wedding with free alcohol so I am not sure if it is typical to serve shots?

Most of the venues we checked out said they would not serve shots. However, our venue said they left it up the the bartenders discretion. I think there were a few rounds of shots done. I have been to weddings where there have been shots served. It's funny, because those are the weddings where my memory gets a little fuzzy towards the end of the night! Smiley winking

I wouldn't mind a few rounds but nothing crazy. I would have to ask my venue though.

I have a feeling that if you were going around giving people free shots of Fireball people would not complain! JD just came out with a similar liquor - apparently it's a smoother drink to shoot and tastes pretty much the same.

I was thinking about doing jell-o shots - that is my fun party favour when I host a party - but I don't know if I'll have the time.

I told the bartenders no shots, but anyone who wanted one just ordered whatever shot they wanted as a 'neat' drink. sooo, it kind of backfired on me.

Our venue will not serve shots of anything. I don't think I'd specifically forbid them if that wasn't the case though. I probably wouldn't have ever thought about it actually Smiley smile

I have never been to a wedding that allowed shots. Anyone who wants straight liquor has to order it on ice.

If we end up on the sunset cruise like we want for our after dinner cocktail hours, I think shots might be a bad idea.... if they're even allowed. Mostly because on a boat, I think somebody would be feeding the fish...

I am able to bring my own alcohol just as long as I have a bartender. I will just tell my bartender if they are too drunk to cut them off. My friends are very responsible luckily and always have a DD so just as long as they are safe and no one pukes I will be happy haha. Anyone know how many shots are in the big bottles? Time to research... I might not need 3.

We will definitely have shots at the wedding (in fact, FH and I just decided to have shot glasses as our favors!), but I don't think we're supposed to bring in our own liquor. FH and his GMs are very into Fireball, as well, so they'll definitely have that in their party bus in the venue parking lot, but not during the wedding. We actually nixed a venue we visited early on specifically because they didn't allow shots.

@VM -- I LOOOVE those little red solo shot glasses. My daughter likes to think we steal them from her dolls.

ETA: I mean, we'll be taking shots from our venue bar during our wedding, but not our own stuff

AG13 - Fireball is still huge with my friends too... Do it up!! Not sure if my venue serves shots I'll have to ask but I've been to a handful of weddings and some allow, some don't but the ones that don't you just get a drink neat or on ice.

As long as you and your venue are okay with it, I don't see any issue. Your guests won't mind (and I'm sure will love!) that it's an option. If you're afraid of it going to waste, I would try to get them from stores that buy back unopened alcohol.

Our venue does not allow shots, so no. That is not to say that the guys won't be partaking in a shot from a flask before the ceremony, as is a customary thing to do in our circle. I would just make sure that your bartender is good about not over serving people, and that you have someone watching the crowd to make sure no one gets out of hand or tries to drive home drunk. Not that this wouldn't happen without shots, but you know they get people drunk faster.

Our venue has a very strict no shot policy.

ETA: sipping drinks like a single of whiskey etc are still permitted. I think they just keep an eye on you to make sure that you aren't plastered.

My venue had no restrictions on alcohol, so we specifically bought stuff for Jagerbombs and tequila shots. I don't know if anyone did any other kind of shots.

Is there a reason why you want the big bottles instead of a regular fifth? Generally, fifths are easier to pour so that's why you'll usually see bars using them instead of the more economical larger bottles. It's not a huge deal, but you may have a lot of waste if you try to pour out of a half-gallon bottle.

I wouldn't have a reception at a venue that doesn't allow shots. Especially, since I am paying. Yes, my reception will have shots for everyone...or at least everyone who wants them.
