Are you supposed to choose the MOB and MOG dresses?

After reading a recent post it got me thinking about am I supposed to choose the mother of the bride and mother of the groom dresses? I told them that I would like them to wear red, but I never thought of picking their dresses...Any thoughts ladies?

    I don't think so. I want my mom and FMIL to feel comfortable. I'm sure your opinion matters to them, but no need to pick it out.
