Are you using or used acrylic invites? Looking for something different...suggestions?

Legacy, on February 18, 2011 at 12:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

Has anyone ever used or using acrylic for invitations? I really like the look and feel of them. I want something that is unique and classy. The thing with the acrylic is what the heck do you do with them after. I mean most people will toss your invite after the ceremony or keep as a keepsake...the acrylic invites don't carry the same luxury.

Any other comparable options would be great!

Happy (long weekend) Friday! ;-)

I've never seen those before. My biggest concern would be price to mail those babies...

They are nice but may cost a lot to mail. Have you considered translucent paper (like vellum)?

Maybe you could incorporate the acrylic into other aspects of the wedding (like the table numbers). I saw that in a magazine and it was very pretty. The couple was doing a contemporary style wedding.

Totally get where you're coming from. I really want to do something different with my invites to get the wow factor. I like the idea of using a box~ but I'm not sure how to do it without breaking the bank.

The acrylic look really cool, I'm a fan. They'll get tossed afterwards by most of your guests (just like a paper invite will). Maybe make a paper version for yourself & parents to tuck in a photo album.

Yeah I have Andrene but I havent seen anything that really does it for me. I also like very nice paper but I'd like the presentation to be nice. I like the boxes invitations also...

    Check out this website.

I got boxed scrolls from them to use as my wedding programs and they sent a sample invite with the scrolls that were to die for. the pictures on the website don't do them justice at all. The quality in person is amazing. And the price was way less than anything else I saw. .

Also, depending on your budget, you should look at the Vera Wang line. I got my invites from them and they are beautiful.

Thanks. I'll check them out. Invitations are not on our top 3 list of must haves but I would like something that really wows our guests.

It's hard shopping for paper when you cant feel and see it but looks like I'll have to dedicate a few days to that.

Those are pretty awesome. I know a couple of previous posters suggested vellum, but what about having them printed on overhead transparency? I think it might have the same look but would be thinner and a bit cheaper to mail?

They work with your vision and budget and after you sign they give you up to 5 design options that will incorporate what was discussed in your consultation.

Jamila~ If you're up to making your own, just go to a paper store. (They're everywhere you just don't know it yet). I recently went and had a field day. I picked up a bunch of samples in my wedding colors just to play around with. You might find some inspiration while you're there.

Ah! i just had a thought~ what about making a small story book that chronicles the wedding information? (I'm an art student… i be crazy some times) I might just do it! details and a mock up forth coming!!

If budget is a concern then Vera is out of the question. I can personally attest to the quality of the boxed scrolls though. A similar product in the states would run you about $10 to $15 a piece. Also, the scroll is actually made of a translucent fabric (as opposed to paper) and the printing is raised (like you would see for engraved or thermography). It looks like a work of art. You can order a sample for about $5 and if you elect to go with them that would be deducted from you final order.

Thanks so much Andrene. I will definitely put them on my vendor list to look into. The scrolls are different and the sample price is great.

Kimberly I like that idea of creating a small story book hmmm... :-)

I'm pretty creative and crafty but soooo not trying to do any extensive DIY wedding projects. My goal is to be stress FREE :-)

Hayley...I LOVE them. Thanks, I'll inquire about pricing. My guess is that I'll just end up with paper invitations but something still unique to us. We shall see.

When I was shopping for my invitations, another bride was also in the store and was looking at some clear invitations. I thought they were beautiful (but not for me). It would certainly be different.

I was/am considering this too. I have not been able to find anywhere that just does it and I am also trying to figure out mailing costs. I am already going with a box of some kind. But I am really interested in having the WOW factor for the invitation.

I did find this web site for the bronze plexiglass (my colors are chocolate and gold)

    http://www.eplastics.com/Plastic/Plexiglass_Acrylic_Sheet_Bronze_Grey_Smoked_Gray_Colored

But I have not had time to follow up with an engraving shop to see how much it would be to have the invitations done.

I am working with 2 etsy designers to see who can come up with something that WOWs me! I will PM you their etsy store info. But if you can't tell, I am so with you on this one.

Lol we're going with neutral colors and gold tones too various shades of champagne and chocolate brown possibly throwing in a splash of color. Maybe red, teal, purple...not sure yet.

The cheapest ones I found were $5 each on this site

I just can't recall which vendor it was, I have it at home... :-\

Let me know how you make out!

A great alternative to the acrylic would be transparency paper. There are plenty of custom stationers right here on WW who can create something totally unique for your special day. Custom invitations are often more affordable than album selections. Consultations are typically free.

Word to the wise ladies, engraving or thermography printing will cost a mint. Add that to the boxed design and you could easily spend $2K or $3K just on invites. Definitely shop around to various vendors who may be able to give you that WOW factor using alternate methods/materials.

Honestly, invitations and STDs are where I spent the least because i feel that most people really don't save these things. I did my own on Vistaprint and spent less than 125.00 for all invitations, RSVP cards, STDs and envelopes for all of them. As a matter of fact I had full color glossy STDs and they were all FREE. I'd rather put this money into something else like the favors or some other wedding accessory. But they are very nice if you want to spend that kind of money in this area.
