Hi All!

Live in Arizona, getting married in California....is their an option to refile in Arizona, to use Arizona in all future legal matters? And, not have to abide b y California, ie. divorce, taxes, etc?

What? You get your marriage license in California but your residence/workplace is in Arizona, so that determines your taxes, etc.

    This is a confusing question.

You get have to get your licence in the state where you are getting married (ie California), but you are still married when you go back to Arizona...you don't have to re-refile every time you move

As LindseyO said - your marriage license will be from California, but you will still abide by the state laws where you reside for everything. Think about it this way - the WW office is technically in Maryland, but I live in DC - so I pay federal and DC taxes.

    Does this answer your question?

ETA: You would not be allowed to "refile" in Arizona, because you are legally married. A valid marriage license from any US state is recognized in the rest of the states. The state in which you are married holds the record of that marriage.

I know it sounds ridiculous.....but SHOULD a divorce happen...would California have any play in the matter?

You are married in all 50 states. If you have things to be worried about, consult a lawyer. Why are you thinking divorced when you're not even married yet?

Yeah that's non of your business. Your daughter is an adult and no longer your responsibility unless she is asking you questions about this in which case I'd be very concerned.

Here with you as in living with you?? It needs to be her and FH discussing these things. Not you and her.

I think I speak for mostly everyone here in that inquiring about which state's divorce laws apply to a marriage that hasn't even occurred yet, and referring to that (or so I assume) as "the ace in her pocket", is rather unsettling.

I'm more disturbed by the "Ace in her pocket" statement because in California no matter how long you're married for law states everything is 50/50.. is that her "ace"?
