Army wedding Attire ?????

Lauren , on April 11, 2018 at 1:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

My fiancé is in the Army and will be wearing his ASU (Dress Blues). We are having a barn wedding and looking to stay on the causal wedding attire side. We are not wanting our groomsmen in tux or suits. My FH really wants to have them in Jeans and a vest. I am looking for other Army weddings who are doing a less formal groomsmen attire with the ASU. Pictures are appreciated.

I think it’s going to look weird when he’s dressed formally(dress blues are equivalent to tuxes) if they’re in jeans. Is he planning on changing into jeans after the ceremony.

I think they are two completely different levels of formality and will look odd. If the groom wants to change, can the groomsmen not do the same? They must all own jeans, so it's not like you are asking them to buy two different outfits.

Can the guys where khakis or black dress pants instead of jeans? When I married exH, Army was still dress greens so he wore his uniform and the groomsmen wore khakis with a white dress shirt and a tie.

I agree this won't look how you want it to look. He needs to dress down or they need to dress up. I think blue or grey suits maybe no tie? Still gets what you are going for.

do you expect that guests will be in jeans?

Could he wear the less formal uniform? Like the mid level one?

I think the levels of formality are completely fine. My hubby is wearing jeans for our wedding!

My FH is in the navy and probably wearing his uniform. The GM will be in navy suits. Maybe you could have your groomsmen be in navy dress pants and a white button down with a vest? I think that would be a good compromise.

I'm not a fan of any of those options. The groomsmen are dressed much too casually for a groom wearing his dress blues. It almost comes across as disrespectful.

This is as casual as I would go and even then I think they would look infinitely better with a jacket, or at least a vest.

Please excuse if I have shown the wrong uniform. I don't live in the USA and am not familiar with military uniforms.

    What are your bridesmaids wearing?

Is there are reason your FH is so resistant to the men dressing up a bit? Is he concerned about asking them to spend the money to buy a jacket or vest?

Those options show how this idea doesn't work. It looks as if the groom showed up at the last minute with no idea that the wedding was so casual.

If that is what he wants and it makes you guys happy, then just do it! I think the key is to make sure the guys are in the same or similar dark wash jeans with minimal or no whiskering or distressing to keep the look from being too casual.

Also, the last couple of military weddings I went to, the groom changed out of his uniform and into a suit after all the required photo ops (cake cutting, first dance, etc), he could always change into the some more similar to the groomsmen.

He is planning on changing... I have made so many decisions myself and this is his request. I am going to make him dress in his uniform and take him and his groomsmen to a placertain to compare options

Great discussion. I am looking for less formal however I understand DH wanting to wear his 'tux' for the big day.
