"Artificial" ceiling ideas for gym

My reception is in a gym that has no windows. The only light source in the gym are the typical huge lights 30 feet up. I don't like the idea of just leaving the "ceiling" open and using those lights. I was thinking of draping lights, something like this:...

My reception is in a gym that has no windows. The only light source in the gym are the typical huge lights 30 feet up. I don't like the idea of just leaving the "ceiling" open and using those lights. I was thinking of draping lights, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DU4ROZQ/ref=twister_B01M10HTS0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Not sure if I should go with the warm or the "white". Our reception theme is Star Wars, as our wedding day is May 4th.

My main inquiries are this. Do you think it would be enough light to use those and have strands go across every foot or so? We can't drill into the wall or anything, so how could we have the wires, or heavy duty string, go across the gym and hold these draping lights?

My original plan was to have tulle between the lights, about 5 feet across, but that would make the lights two few and far between to where nothing would be all that well lit. I decided this morning throwing out the tulle might be best.

@Cricket not quiet. In the pcp frame. Basically make something like this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/8c/d9/b6/8cd9b65e33552fdcfe0a05a0593dc97d.jpg cover the outside with tulle, scrunched up so you can't really see inside, and then put the light inside the "column".

Gotcha. I'd say if you want to try it, go for it and see what it looks like. The supplies could get expensive quickly...I know pvc can be spendy if you're making it yourself.

Are you having a dj? You can also talk to them about lighting.

Honestly, it your other post is correct, and you're having a non-meal time cake, punch, and apps reception, I wouldn't waste the money on this.

It's totally fine to do a simple afternoon finger food reception if that's what the budget allows. It just seems misplaced to spend a good chunk of a potentially limited budget on expensive (and DIYing lighted pipe and drape is expensive) and unnecessary decor.

Hey Date Twin! Glad there's another May the Fourth couple out there! I agree with PPs though that maybe you want to think of some uplighting and be sparse on the big diy pieces. These things all add up really quickly! FH and I are doing one pipe and drape diy that will be moved from the ceremony space to behind the desert table. Maybe focus more on eye level details like centerpieces- you can still make everything look really nice and no one is really going to bother to look up, and if they do they won't remember it later.

Omg please OP... PCP is a drug... PVC is plastic pipe... And making what you posted out of PVC is gonna take more time/money than you think. Consider renting draping from a professional or just going with uplighting.
