Ask your best friend if she would be willing to do it as a couple shower or just do both. There is nothing wrong with that!! Your mom thinks it's crazy cuz it's not the "traditional" thing but who cares about traditional

This is really up to your friend hosting the shower. If she is comfortable hosting a couple's shower then let her know that is what you want. We had a couple's shower and it was a lot of fun including the guys.

Can’t you just ask your friend if she’d be okay with hosting a wedding shower instead of a bridal shower?

A couples shower is fine, as is a traditional and a couples shower. However I would not invite the same people (women) to both. That would seem greedy. You could have a traditional shower for your family and then a couples shower with your friends that is more laid back. That would be the best of both worlds.

Right, but you're thinking about two showers and only one person has offered to throw you a shower. That's why I asked if anyone offered to throw you ANOTHER shower. If nobody offers to throw you a second shower, you only get one, and whoever the host is for any event thrown for you gets to decide what kind of event they want to host and how many guests they can afford.

The groom can come to the bridal shower. We had a "traditional" bridal shower where all the guests were women. However, my husband, his dad, and his grandfather were also there (in a separate room hanging out and playing pool). My husband came over for the shoe game and opening gifts. At least where I live, the groom is usually at the bridal shower, at least for part of it.
