Asking for advice

Lily, on May 27, 2022 at 5:32 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11
Hello!
My husband and I got married Oct 16 in 2021 and we still have not received our wedding video. It has been 7 months and we have asked twice since the 5 month mark of our wedding date about an estimated date we would receive it and they keep pushing it back. We are getting frustrated because we both follow their personal Instagram account and while it is great and totally okay for people to have an active social life and to travel, we feel a lot of time could be put towards our wedding video especially since we know there was only one wedding before ours that they admitted to. At what point do I ask again about receiving the video and would it be wrong for me to ask about some kind of compensation? Am I also overreacting and what is the normal timeframe for a video? I am very open to input!

If you signed a contract with them, what does it say?

Wedding videography is NOT cheap and for them to keep pushing it back is unprofessional. 7 months is a long time. Even 5 months is a long time. You’re not overreacting.

We got all of our videos exactly 2 weeks after our wedding! I can’t believe you haven’t gotten yours yet

I wouldn’t anticipate ever receiving anything without a contract. I’d be thrilled to receive any video at all.

That’s so unprofessional. Their procrastination isn’t acceptable. Did you make any verbal agreements? Without a contract it’s hard to say if and when you’ll receive the video simply because they can change the rules at any given time. You’re not overreacting. I’m sorry about this and hope it gets resolved very soon.

Seven months is unacceptable. They are not a professional company or they would have presented a contract. Were they a friend? Do they have bad reviews?
I would be calling and emailing daily for answers. Be persistent.

Yikes, that's a tough situation to be in. Since you don't have a contract, I'm afraid that you don't have any protections. I would just hope and pray that they actually send you the video eventually

Oh nooooo. Vendors should NEVER be hired without a contract. Without a contract you are unprotected from situations just like the one you are experiencing. There’s nothing keeping them from taking as long as they want, producing a poor quality video, or not ever delivering one at all. Without a contract you are pretty much at their mercy. 7 months is a ridiculous amount of time for a wedding video. I hope they get their act together and actually deliver soon!

I agree with the others. You can sue, but technically you never agreed on a timeframe. Do you have any messages where they state when you'll get the video? I think if you sue civilly and have messages of them promising a date then it could maybe count as a verbal contract. I would ask again, then bring up your dissatisfaction with the time frame, and then threaten legal action. Take screenshots of your messages.

Well without a contract, unfortunately there isn't anything you or anyone else can do other than leave negative reviews and post in local bridal groups warning others not to use them.
Just for reference, our video contract said they had 16 weeks to deliver all the videos included in our package.

Anyway, I hope you are able to get something! At this point if I were you I would ask for all the raw footage and kind of accept that they aren't going to edit for you any time soon. Once you have the raw you can pay someone else to edit it and then leave the videographers bad reviews online.
