Asking for Cash

You're correct, it is tacky. If you don't want physical gifts, just skip a registry and guests will default to cash without being told.

We're not doing a registry either. I wouldn't put anything about wanting cash, as it is tacky. Cash as a gift when there isnt a registry is assumed.

I just wouldn't register. Skip a bridal shower. People will get the hint & gift cash.

On this site there are so many who advocate for a "You do you! If you want money just say so or have a honeyfund!" approach, but I think your instincts are correct that there may well be guests who find this approach tacky and offensive. (And, honestly, based on daughter's guest list, those who likely would have been MOST offended by that approach were those who without any prompting gave QUITE generous cash gifts -- so, probably NOT the people one would want to offend.) As pp's have mentioned, just don't register at all or have a small registry of things you'd like to upgrade, and the majority of guests will read between the lines and gift cash without the risk of offense.

Just don't register anywhere and your guests will get the hint
