Asking to cover tattoos offensive?

C, on March 12, 2020 at 12:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 56
Hello everyone . I am getting married March 20, 2021 and I wanted to know if you all would find it offensive to ask someone to cover their tattoos as a bridesmaid ? I will be covering two of mine, but i have at least one bridesmaid who has quite a bit of them including large tattoos on her fingers and hands and arms and I believe they will take away from the dress and my photos.

Unless they're highly offensive (as in racial slurs, not because grandma doesn't like tattoos,) the yes that's rude.

I have one small tattoo and yes, I would be offended if someone asked me to cover it. I consider it a part of me and would not appreciate the suggestion.

If I was a bridesmaid, it would not bother me to be asked to cover tattoos. It is that couples photos and I would want to do whatever made them happy.

Yes, it would be offensive to ask your bridesmaid to cover her tattoos. Her tattoos will not be the focus of your photos in the slightest.

Thank you! I’m not trying to offend anyone but it is just taking away from the dress in my opinion but i don’t want to be rude either

You knew she had tattoos when you asked her to be in your weddng. If you didn't want a bridesmaid with tattoos, you didn't have to ask her.

I would hate if someone asked me to cover my tattoos.

Are you paying for their gown ? Make up ? Accessories ?
I think that’s a bit too much asking them to cover tattoos

My tattoos are part of me and have been for a long time. If someone asked me to cover them, it would feel like they were saying that part of me wasn’t good enough for them. I would probably excuse myself from the wedding if I was asked to do this.

Thank you for your honest feedback. I’m covering my own so i didn’t think anything of it but this helps a lot . I guess mine aren’t as meaningful to me as they may be to others. I regret getting mine . Thank you for this perspective

Lol you go girl ! But i guess i feel that sometimes they take away from the look itself. But all in all they aren’t who i am anymore. I got them young and without a care but they don’t for me anymore so i think that’s why I’m almost numb to why ppl really get tattoos. Mine were just cause tattoos with no real meaning. I can see why someone would be offended if i asked bc of this thread . So thank you very much
