Attaching flowers to an arch?

Lucia, on March 14, 2019 at 12:12 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 5 13
Hi all! I’m wanting to attach flowers and greenery to an arch that we’ll be renting from or venue. They’ll be real flowers and greenery, and from the internet I’ve identified that I’ll need to use floral foam cages and I’ll attach the cages with zip ties to the arch. If you’ve done this before, I’d love to know details and see your photos, or just hear any advice you have! Here’s some of my questions:
-What size floral foam cages did you use? I think the Oasis Grande size will work, but there’s a larger Jumbo size option. (If you have pictures of the finished thing to compare, that would be amazing.)
-Does it work to bring the cages pre-loaded with flowers to the venue and just attach them there, or do you need to attach the cages without flowers first?
I’ll attach some photos as well - this is kind of what I’m thinking of but without the draping.
Thank you!

We are doing this for our wedding coming up in May. We are doing DIY flowers through a florist. Basically they order our flowers for us and then we go to a class and have a "floral coach" who helps us put everything together. Our florist is ordering the cages but I will be able to see the size and such of them, so I can follow up with you in May lol

My florist did say you can put the florals on the cage first, and then just zip tie it to the arbor right before the ceremony.

Did you talk to your venue about this? Sometimes when renting from the venue, you just drop off the attachments with photos and they attach them for you. But regardless def have the flowers inserted into the cages, and have some backup flowers just in case. Having them in will give you more time for other projects on the day of, and less stress of how it should look. Def do a trial a couple months before to see what works best for you.

Thanks all! Great to hear that the cages can be put together ahead of time. We actually aren’t going to have a florist, just order from a wholesaler (probably Fifty Flowers). I love working with plants in general and several family members are great at design so I think it’s going to be a fun project to do together, and the look is wildflowers kind of thrown together like they were just picked so that shouldn’t be too hard. It’s just the arch that’s a little bit of a logistical challenge because I don’t see much information online in terms of examples or instructions.

I used "large" cages I ordered on Amazon, they fit a whole block of foam and a little bit extra to make it secure. It held a ton of flowers though. I am doing silks so they are already done and will just be zip tied day of. I imagine doing real flowers you could still pre arrange then just zip tie already completed.
