Attire of male bridesmaid

Rebecca, on June 5, 2018 at 5:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Hey all! One of my bridesmaids (bridesman?) is male, and we're trying to figure out what to have him wear. My initial thought was to have him match the groomsmen attire (slacks, button down, suspenders, and boutonniere), but my FH suggested he match more with the other bridesmaids. FH suggested a shirt matching the bridesmaids' dress color.

Bestie is both good spirited and humored, and agreed to wear a dress if we so wish. My bridesmaids will be wearing flower crowns, and we talked about having him wear a crown for the day as well. I don't know anyone who's had a bridesman, so its relatively uncharted water. I'm hoping to find a niche for him so he doesn't look out of place... I don't want anyone to be uncomfortable or stick out like a sore thumb.

Advice please! Thank you for your kindness!

Maybe a similar suit color as the groomsmen but a tie that's the color of your bridesmaid's dresses? (Unless that's the color the groomsmen also have...) Love the flower crown idea!!!

I love bridesdudes! I almost had one....but then Floof stole him for his own party. Smiley xd

The bridesdudes I've seen have generally matched the groomsmen...because the groomsmen were coordinated with the bridal party. IE: most recent one was cobalt blue dresses on the BP, and the GP had that same blue for their ties and vests.

    But I think either works!

Hey Rebecca! Smiley laugh So really you could go either direction with this one! I have seen the bridesman match the groomsmen but I have also seen them match the bridesmaids. What color were the parties planning on wearing? Maybe you could have him wear the same suit as the groomsmen and the tie/suspenders match the dresses of the bridesmaids?

He could match the groomsmen accept for his shirt color which could match your BM's or he could just match the groomsmen completely and stand on your side instead of his, It depends on the look you and your FH want and what you feel comfortable with.

As accommodating as he might say he is, please do not ask him to wear a dress. If he genuinely wants to wear a dress, that's one thing, and boy should go right on ahead, but don't make him do it just for you because he said he would "if you wish". I find that degrading.

Personally, I would have him match the groomsmen, but a shirt in the same color as the BM dresses would be fine too.

I have a bridesman. I think I’ll be having him in the same attire as the groomsmen, but with some of the accessories I’m doing for my bridesmaids. Our wedding party is Harry Potter inspired, so like they’ll have pins and house emblems for accessories, I’ll give him those. But also the groomsmen are getting monogrammed knives and the girls are getting bracelets to wear. So we’ll give him the knife instead so he’s getting stuff he’s happy with. I feel the men of the bridal party can all look alike, no matter what side they’re on because my FH will be dressed a bit differently. Idk. Hopefully that helps.

ps. Mine offered to wear the dress, too. 😂 gotta love em. They’re the best.

I'm having a bridesman as well! My mother is not too happy about that lol but he's one of my best friends so. I'm just starting to plan things so I don't really have it all figured out yet, but I was thinking of having him wear the same suit as the groomsmen but with a different colored tie that matches the bridesmaid dresses, like others have said here. I'm also considering having the bridesmaids wear different colored dresses, however, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do haha.

Glad to be of assistance. Go all of us girls with bridesmen! I stole mine from my fh’s side because he’s a really good friend to us both. Good luck and congrats!

We've got mixed parties on both sides. The suit wearing people are wearing grey slacks & vests, with a white shirt and a sky blue tie, that matching the sky blue dresses the dress people are wearing. I think it feels cohesive that way.

I think having the bridesman in the shirt that matches the dresses would be lovely and cohesive too.

We're having the bridesman match the groomsmen because it's easier and he felt better about it. Our two groomsmaids have the option of wearing the same dress as the bridesmaids or a female suit similar to that of the groomsmen. I think the floral crown sounds like a funny touch at least for some photos or the reception, if your gig is truly up for it!

My cousin was man of honor in a wedding! His suit was the same color as the bridesmaids.

Instead of a flower crown, maybe an open-ended ti leaf lei with some of the same flowers used in the crowns?

We had my bridesman dressed identically to the groomsmen (all in tuxes) EXCEPT the groomsmen all had silver vests and my bridesman had a plum purple vest that matched the plum purple bridesmaids dresses. Sort of the same idea as having your bridesman wear a shirt to match your bridesmaids' dresses.

I'm not sure what you're planning as far as boutonnieres, but one way you could bring in the flower crown aspect without actually giving him a flower crown would be to have his boutonniere match the flowers in your 'maids' crowns and then have a different kind of flowers for the groomsmen. Like if you have daisy crowns, give your bridesman a daisy boutonniere and give the groomsmen orchid boutonnieres.

That being said, we got some great advice when picking out the men's attire: don't get too complicated! We initially had this whole complex system of who was wearing what colors and what would distinguish my family from H's father from the groomsmen from my bridesman from the groom. So SO many permutations of vests and boutonnieres and pocket squares! It was tooooo much. We ultimately had the groom in a very traditional black vest with white pocket square, everyone on H's "side" (groomsmen and his dad) in silver vests with silver pocket squares, and everyone on my "side" (bridesman, bother, and dad) in plum vests with plum pocket squares and everyone had the same boutonnieres. When in doubt, simplify.

I have a bridesman and my theme is emerald and chocolate for Harry Potter and the Hobbit so I'm having the groomsmen in grey suits with brown vest and ties and my dad and the bride's man in green vest and ties.

Please don't put him in a crown. That would definitely make him stick out way too much. Have his shirt match the BM colors

Following for the awesome ideas! I, too, am having a bridesman. I was wavering over which side to have him on, as both he and his girlfriend are going to be in our wedding party. At first I was figuring I would have her on my side and him on FH's, but after much deliberation (and a bit of convincing from the 3 of them, lol) I finally decided on having him on my side and her on FH's side. Honestly, switching them like that is a near-perfect representation of the four of our personalities. They were originally my friends, and then they became OUR friends, but I was friends with the guy first, and I still feel just a tiny bit closer to him, so ultimately we're switching, lol.

I hadn't even thought about their attire yet, so this thread is absolutely perfect. Smiley laugh

I was a male bridesmaid for my friend Nicole. One of her other female friends backed out and she asked me. I actually wore the same dress as the female’s.
