August 2020 nj Brides

Kelly, on May 12, 2020 at 9:00 PM Posted in New Jersey Planning 1 3
What are your venues policies for postponing? I feel my venue is being unfair to those of us who are uncomfortable having a wedding this summer, and I would like to have a better understanding of what other venues in the state are willing to do for summer 2020 brides. Please share the name of your venue if you’re comfortable doing so. Thank you!

Hi Kelly! Are they asking you to wait until closer to your wedding date to decide? I can see their hesitation to waive postponing/cancellation fees if it's not yet clear that they will not be able to host your event on that wedding date, but I'll also totally feel where you're coming from and would want to be proactive as well!

You should definitely join in on this discussion with other New Jersey couples discussing how their venues have been handling things: nj Wedding - August - Coronavirus Impact

And here are a few more NJ and August convos:

Thank you for the helpful threads! I just wish my venue would allow me to put a deposit down on a back up date, and then just add the total of the deposit to my August wedding if I am able to have it (so at least maybe I could get something for my money). Right now, If I want to put a deposit on another date, it voids this contract and then I completely lose 70% of what I've already put down. They are booked for next summer, and they will make me rebook within a year of my original wedding date if I have to move it. Supposedly they are also booked for November and December, too...so it is still slim pickings. Therefore, when my wedding inevitably gets cancelled, I will now have to move it to an undesirable date. I am a teacher and can't take off of work. I won't be able to take a honeymoon. I won't be able to have a bachelorette party. I just feel it is unfair to not allow brides to put a deposit down on a back up date when they so clearly would be able to sell it in a heartbeat.

I also do not see how we will be able to have the wedding. I am not willing to have it with masks, social distancing, or 50 people. There are articles everywhere about how this will not be a "normal" Jersey Shore summer. Summer 2020 brides deserve to be able to have the weddings they envisioned.

Hi Kelly! This unfortunately is happening to me as well and I'm also in New Jersey. It is sort of disappointing when this is something so far out of our control. My FH and I are getting married in September and were supposed have a reception/ceremony at a venue. They wont let us reschedule until a month before the wedding (you know at this point, we would have paid for decorations, invitations, people would have paid for their accommodations if they needed too etc) only to reach out 4 weeks before our event to let guests know that we would be postponing. It could be possible that the venue wouldn't even be able to hold an event with 150 people. and I cant imagine what this would look like socially distanced. If we reschedule now, we would have to pay extra money for our date next year, they are only letting us postpone to March if we do reschedule now. I understand that this is a business, but our venue has been open and providing takeout only during this time. Its very disappointing to see that multiple venues are doing this to couples who are already heartbroken that this day will be different than they planned.
