August 2020 Wedding-nj

Antoinette, on April 14, 2020 at 11:42 PM Posted in New Jersey Planning 0 10

Hello everyone,

My fiance and I have scheduled our wedding for August, 22, 2020. For those who have their weddings scheduled for August 2020 and live in NEW JERSEY, are you still moving forward with your plans being that the world is facing this pandemic?? I am torn and not sure if I should just wait to see what May brings!

I hope everyone is staying safe!

I would hold off for a little bit and see how things go this month/ beginning of May. We were getting married in south jersey scheduled for July 2nd but looking to postpone the beginning of September.

A lot of April, May, June brides have already postponed for August/ September so i think we are all praying things should be calmer by then

I would wait until 5/15 at least before making the decision to postpone but that's not to say that you can't look into a later date just in case but definitely give it some time before postponing.

We postponed our September to next October. Especially being in NJ/NYC. It also depends how big your wedding is, are people traveling, guests older, etc.

    Hi Kendra,

Thanks for your feedback! I think holding off on postponing is best for now too. We may even wait until mid-May before we make a decision. Our invitations are scheduled to be delivered within a week so we will have them way in advance. Thanks again and stay safe!

    Hi Naikesha,

I think that is what we will end up doing. I had mentioned to Kendra that our invitations are going to be delivered way in advance so it gives us time to think this through. Thank you for your feedback! Stay safe!

    Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for your feedback! Our list consists of a whopping 328 people. I did speak to my mother (as most of the guests are her friends haha) and told her there just had to be a significant decrease. As far as pushing it off another year, I am not sure if this is what we will do. We both agreed that although we'd like a grand wedding, we just want to be together at the end of the day. I guess we'll just wait until mid-May to make a decision. Thankfully, I just watch a video where Dr. Fauci shared we are starting to see a flattening of the curve! Great news. Praying it just gets better from here. Stay safe and good luck with your plans!

I’m Aug 22 and in NJ as well! I’m trying to stay hopeful but until we get on the other side of the “curve” I am a nervous wreck! We are going to wait until Mid-May to decide on a backup plan. I still have not had a dress fitting (my dress only came in last week but the shop is closed for alterations) and none of the groomsmen have gotten tuxes. I’m dreading reaching out to all the vendors to ask them to reschedule so just praying things begin to improve.

    Hi Samantha!

Thanks for the reply. My fiancé and I decided we we would like to move forward with at least the ceremony if we can’t have a larger gathering. We do have to speak to the priest to confirm .. I mean, as of now, we are allowed gatherings of 10. If I can at least have my family, thats all I care about. We just want to be together at the end of the day.
I feel strongly that larger crowds will be permitted by August but I am totally with you; I’m nervous too. Our invitations just came in and we had intended to invite over 300 people! So we definitely wont be using all 155 we ordered lol. We are giving this until early - mid June to decide. Im also worried about vendors not refunding anything; regardless we will have to downsize the entire wedding.
As far as tuxes, lord and Taylor and nordstrom have great sales! My fiancé’s party bought theirs from lord and taylor and as far as I know, they are still shipping.
Do you know anything about getting marriage licenses in NJ? Thats something I still have to look into.
    Thanks!

We postponed our April 24th wedding literally 2 weeks before. All of our guests are close friends/family and are local so it wasn't an issue. But if you have a big guest list and out of state guests I would suggest waiting a month out the latest.

    Hi Antoinette,
It was really easy applying for my Marriage license! I needed cash or check for 28 bucks, my photo Id, and social. My fiancé had to be present as well and we needed a witness. They have also been working with me in regards to covid19 and picking up my license. They told me they would even mail it if need be. Overall it was a great experience in Nj! Good luck!
