Just Said Yes November 2021

August or November in Md?

J, on September 30, 2020 at 9:03 AM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hi everyone,

Trying to plan a 2021 wedding is insane... no dates available! I have to decide between super hot and humid August with lots of greenery, or potentially very chilly November with bare trees. Ideally, we would like our ceremony and reception inside with an outdoor cocktail hour and outdoor cornhole/ fire/ etc.
Thoughts? Has anyone had to make a similar choice?
Thank you in advance!

My fiance and I postponed our July 2020 wedding. We were considering July 2021, but we would have had to choose a Sunday or a Thursday due to extremely limited venue availability (there are SO many weddings postponed to 2021). So, instead, we went to July 2022 - much more open availability, and more time for COVID to settle down. Is going to 2022 an option for you? You'd likely have a better chance at getting the date you want.

We choose our wedding by date, once we had a date we found a venue (to our liking) that could accommodate that date. I know so many brides go for the venue versus the date they want. It's a personal preference. We also went from an October wedding in Maine to an October wedding in the FL Keys. Again, were FIRM on the date we wanted and did what we had to find a place that met our wants and needs. And I LOVE OUR VENUE, it was no sacrifice at at all.

I think you and your FH have to decide what is most important to you and go from there.

    Hi!

As of right now, we just want to get married in 2021. We’ve been dating for 9 years and are excited to officially be married!
I feel we are very easy to please, aren’t really nit picky about the date or place (with some exceptions). So really it’s just a matter of picking between what’s available. I’m trying to pick between two less ideal weather possibilities, but I will marry my fiancé in a McDonalds on a Tuesday before we wait until 2022! Lol

If you aren’t completely set on the venue, I would probably keep looking for one that has a date more in line with your vision. Or, if you are set on the venue, maybe explore the option of a Friday evening or Sunday wedding.

That makes sense! I totally understand not wanting to wait that long. Are the August and November dates the only ones available at a venue you like? Or what makes those the only two options? Have you checked other venues as well?

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had trouble finding a date. But it sounds like you have a stellar attitude about it all! It’s definitely a tough spot to be in as both months are quite opposite.

I’m not getting married in either month, but based on what you said you both are looking for, I’d consider November. Reasons being:
    1) Wedding season is in full swing in August. You may have guests who can’t make it if there are other weddings also scheduled on your date/that same week or weekend. (Especially due to tons of COVID postponements). 2) If you’re looking to have a part of the wedding outdoors, will you and your FH and guests be too hot outside to enjoy the activities that you set up? While it’s cold in November, you can plus up the outdoor area to make it more comfortable (maybe heat lamps, blankets, fire pit, etc). 🙂 3) While bare trees and winter seems to be less popular in terms of wedding months, I think winter is equally as beautiful in photos and depending know where you live, you could still have some beautiful scenery and potentially some remanence of fall with falling leaves, etc.
I’m sure whatever avenue you choose, it’ll be beautiful!

Is it early November? Any chance the leaves will still be pretty fall colors? I'd probably choose the November date and provide heaters outside during cocktail hour. Being hot and sweaty at a wedding is the worst!

Or, keep looking for venues with better dates?

I live in Maryland I know the weather pretty well I would say. August can definitely be very warm especially for outdoor activities like cocktail hour and games. November has been surprisingly on the warmer side the past few years, but that is not always the case. If it were me, I would probably go with August because you know for sure there won't be snow to deal with. To combat the heat, I would make sure there are fans available or have cocktail hour and games in a shady spot.

If I had to choose between those dates I would definitely choose November. Not only would the weather be better, the costs would most likely be a little lower because it isn’t in the summer.

November can be iffy with the weather but I’d rather be a little chilly than sweating constantly

I attended a November wedding in NOVA a few years ago and it was gorgeous. Yes the trees were bare and so were the vines (was at a vineyard) but the snow on the ground, the fire pits, the beautiful sunset and warm colors was a beautiful wedding.
