Austin or New Orleans bachelorette party?

roman_holiday, on March 31, 2017 at 12:29 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 13

My BP is planning a bachelorette weekend trip -- they want me to make the final decision on location. It's between Austin, TX and New Orleans - which would you choose?

I've been to NOLA but it was back in 2001 when I was like 19... so memories are a bit fuzzy. I've never been to Austin. We would be going end of June - so both places will be hot in terms of weather. Thanks everyone!

I feel like New Orleans is made for bach parties Smiley smile Austin is awesome as well but can be very expensive to fly to!

Austin is one of my favorite party cities in the country! That being said, depending where you are, flight prices can vary. I've been to Austin 2 weeks into July and it was hot, but not the worst since it wasn't so humid. So maybe something to consider?

I think the *vibe* is a little different between the two cities though. The music scene (live music in bars) definitely is, so not sure which is more up your alley.

New Orleans gets my vote, but I'm very biased! My hometown in 45 mins from N.O. and we're doing my bachelorette party there. It's always a fun time and you can do a really fancy, swanky night out or a hot-mess at 3am eating pizza kind of night. For my BP, my MoH booked a nice room with a balcony over Bourbon St. The plan is to mostly party there, throwing beads off the balcony.

Yeah it's a tough choice! I think we could find lots of things to do in both cities - music, bars, clubs etc that would be fun.

Everyone is spread out - from east coast to west coast and a few in between - so pricing to get there is roughly the same for our group for both cities.

    ETA: clarity

@Jessica! I grew up in Austin. fb message me if you want some recommendationsSmiley smile

I vote Austin! As someone who grew up there and has a father who is an Austin PD officer, please take my advice :LEAVE 6TH STREET (OR SIMILAR AREAS) BEFORE TIME OF BAR CLOSE. You would not believe the shit shows that happen when the drunks get out. Fights, stampeding, car accidents, random ass assaults, you name it.

Also just be aware Austin and Uber do not get along, so plan on other DD options.

ETA: please take my advice as just advice, not trying to say Austin is unsafe. The last time I went to New Orleans I was groped... I know that's not everyones experience but it definitely made me not want to go back.

Thanks Kay! The only thing about NOLA that I'm not as excited about is that I believe you can drink at 18 or 19 there (feel free to correct me - i don't remember the exact law)

I just remember it was extremely relaxed compared to other cities. While I know Austin is also a college town, and you can run into a very young crowd no matter where you are, I definitely want to avoid some drunk 18 year old puking on me... Smiley winking

Hmmm I wouldn't think that would be correct about the law but I haven't googled it. The crowd you will find in Austin is not what you would expect of a typical college crowd. The only places you'll find that are the cheesy bars smack dab on 6th street. There are tons of streets in areas that have gotten more developed in the recent years with way different crowds that are a lot more enjoyable. Rainey Street and the Rock Rose part of the Domain in north Austin are two examples that come to mind.

Some of my favorite things to do in Austin in the summer:

    1. BARTON SPRINGS POOL! This is a must a must a must!

    2. rent kayaks or paddle boards on town lake

    3. eat and drink at The Oasis... the scenery can't be beat!

    4. Brunch at kerbey lane or magnolia café

    5. shop around at the little stores on Congress

Going to NOLA for a bach in May and I am so excited! There is so much to do - like we are doing a swamp tour and a jazz brunch and having a night out and going to cemeteries all that fun stuff. I am really looking forward to it
